Why Canva's AI Background Editor Impresses Professional Photographers

Some people have tried every AI tool that claims to be able to edit backgrounds, but the results often look like a hastily edited photo. After so many disappointments, they finally found a tool that doesn't make them feel ashamed to put their name on the results.

Beautiful wallpapers in just minutes

It's no exaggeration to say that Canva has turned everyone into a designer with its intuitive and easy-to-use tools. With so many options out there, including Photoleap for AI photo editing, many people choose Canva primarily because of its user-friendliness and ability to easily create designs in a variety of formats.

Longtime Photoshop users swear by it for photo editing. However, the free version of Canva is an essential part of many people's workflows, both as photographers and educators. When I heard about Canva's relight feature, I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised by the results.

Note : The background generator is only available in the pro version, which costs $12.99/month or about $120/year.

Once in Canva, upload your image and go to Edit . Click on BG Generator and add a prompt. The results won't always be perfect, so keep tweaking the prompt until you're happy.

Remember to be as specific as possible to get the desired result. At the same time, avoid asking for too many elements. For example, when the author added 'on a black plate on the beach', the generator ignored the plate and only generated the beach. This tool works well with images on a clean white background. However, the results were not ideal when tested with images with a cluttered background.

Note : Keep in mind that this tool is designed to produce clean, professional photos. So start with a good quality photo and you'll get a useful result. Avoid fancy or fancy prompts – the goal is to keep the photo realistic and sharp.

Canva's Relight always highlights the light

This is the feature that most people are excited about, and it doesn't disappoint. It works surprisingly well on perfume bottle images. The image is two-dimensional, and looks pretty flat at first. The highlights and shadows add depth, making the image look three-dimensional and realistic. In many basic AI image generators, the subject is simply cut out and placed on a new background, resulting in a photo that looks fake.

If you're not a pro, you may not know about white balance in photography , but it's one of the most important things photographers look for. Your photos can have different color casts under different lighting conditions. That's why photographers use large softboxes and studio flashes to make the colors look as neutral as possible. AI photo editing tools have a hard time getting the colors right. But Canva will surprise you when the colors match perfectly.

Tip : I took a photo of the perfume bottle in my closet, in daylight to keep the colors as neutral as possible. Then, I uploaded the unedited photo to Canva.

First, let's create a beach scene with a golden sun in the background. To the uninitiated, this might look fine, but if you look closely, you'll see that the bottle is too white for the background. It looks like the bottle was glued on artificially. This is where Canva's Balanced Relight feature comes in. You can see this in the second image. It adds a warm, soft tone to the bottle.

If you want your background to blend seamlessly with your subject, Canva's Relight option is the best option. Relight works really well with the rainforest background I created. See how the green tones pop and blend well with the colors of the scene.

You have two levels of brightness adjustment: Balanced and Maximum Relight. The Balanced option works well in most situations. If you find yourself in a situation where the light is too bright, Maximum Relight can help.

Note : It is important to remember to take photos in neutral light, such as outdoors or near a window, preferably against a white background. It is best to use a basic studio lighting setup.

The author placed the wine bottle on a patterned sofa, but the lighting fixture could not eliminate the sofa's reflection on the wine bottle. So attention to detail is important to get the most out of this tool.

Canva's AI tools are truly impressive

As we've seen in the examples above, Canva's BG Generator is a dream come true for small business owners who don't have the budget to hire a professional photographer for their product photography shoots. They don't have to limit themselves to using plain white background photos. They also don't have to buy multiple backdrops and props for their photo shoots.

A professional photo shoot with studio lights, props, and expertise can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. Compared to that, Canva costs a fraction of that. If you're a small business owner, you can add this tool to your workflow to create great product photos with minimal effort.

This tool can be useful even if you are not a business owner. Any creative person can use it to bring their ideas to life. You can use it as an interior designer to visualize different furniture in a room. For example, this round dining table looks cozy in a farmhouse setting.

In addition to the product, the author also experimented with portraits. This tool also adjusts the light and dark areas on the face very well. You can use this tool to create business portraits or lifestyle portraits.
