What's in the Linksys LAPAC1750C, a centralized enterprise WiFi network management device?
Around the end of September 2018, Linksys launched Cloud Manager - a cloud-based wireless network management platform, with 3 supported access points including LAPAC1200C, LAPAC1750C and LAPAC2600C. Toward a small business environment, Cloud Manager provides the ability to remotely manage multiple access points and connected devices in a centralized and simple manner.
The Linksys LAPAC1750C supports 802.11ac WiFi connection with a maximum bandwidth of 1750 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz concurrent bands. It supports security methods with WPA2 Pre-shared Key, WPA2 Enterprise and Captive Portal. The Linksys Access Point series all support power from the Switch PoE, but there is also a 12VDC Adapter available in the box.
After booting, you can proceed with LAPAC1750C configuration in 2 ways: Local (access to the IP address of the access point, login with the default admin / admin account and Disable Cloud Manager) or Cloud. The best part of Linksys LAPAC1750C is management through Cloud Manager, so we will configure the product this way.
Visit the website https://business.linksys.com, create an account (if not already) or log in to an existing account, then create a new network (Create a new network). Name your network and notes for easy management later, choose an icon of your choice. The network is created to group access points together.
Once you have the network, you start adding access points to manage, specifically here is LAPAC1750C. Enter the correct MAC address and Serial number (affixed to the back of the product) and click Save. Cloud Manager will automatically detect and after completion will give you a new access point name. You can prepare a pre-installation script, and even install without opening the Access Point device box, which is quite convenient for deployment.
The Linksys Cloud Manager management interface is simple and intuitive, with 5 main tabs including Overview, Access Points, SSIDs, Clients and Settings:
- Overview: provides basic information about the operational status of a specific network (can include one or more access points). You can monitor information about the network with 2 bandwidth indicators and the number of devices connected simultaneously. The chart displays in real time (Real-time), in the last 60 minutes, 24 hours or 7 days. In addition, there is a summary of the highest use of the client or access point, statistics of channels broadcast at frequencies of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Finally, a world map tracks the operational status of access points.
- Access Points: manage details of each specific access point in the network. Click on each access point, you can monitor the status, the details of the device, add or remove WiFi networks (SSIDs), view and adjust TCP / IP parameters, turn on / off each broadcast frequency as well. like parameters options, ping tool and LED flashes to search for access points .
- SSIDs: summarize SSIDs that have been created, added, deleted, modified necessary parameters, bandwidth limits, simultaneous client limits . In particular, Splash page (Captive Portal) allows routing users to Authentication site before accessing the Internet. This feature protects both customers and businesses from unwanted access.
- Clients: summarizes information about clients that have been connected to the network. Here you will know which clients are connected to which SSID, which access point, bandwidth usage. You can also block that client on certain SSIDs under Policy. Default client will be named MAC address, you can change the name to identify important devices easily.
- Settings: options for the network such as changing the icon, name, note or delete the network completely. The Notifications section allows you to set up your email address to receive notifications if an access point is in trouble and offline so that it can be handled promptly.
The right corner of the Cloud Manager interface is the options for managing accounts. Account information is in the Profile section, while Security helps to change the login password, summarizes the logged in sessions and the option to log out remotely. The Members section allows adding network administrator members, having all management rights except Transfer ownership. By default, the account that creates and adds access points to the network will retain ownership, and only this account can select the 'heir'.
Basically, you cannot add the same access point to two different networks, so the account that adds the device to the first network will automatically take ownership permanently. If you know the MAC address and Serial number, even physical access with the access point, it still only works under the control / management of the original Cloud Manager account.
Linksys LAPAC1750C is an access point for enterprise environment with many advanced features. In addition to security, the product, when combined with Cloud Manager, helps business owners easily save money on wireless network management. The person in charge of network infrastructure can deploy deployment, diagnose errors, remove remotes remotely via cloud environment without onsite. The management work is more central, less resource-intensive both in terms of manpower and costs. The scalability of access points that support Cloud Manager is theoretically infinite, suitable for small and medium enterprises but also easy to develop later.
The Linksys LAPAC1750C is suitable for restaurant, hotel and coffee shop customers, with a chain model with many stores and branches.
