4 tools to help build a website for beginners
Luckily, there are now a number of website builders that enable beginners to get a website up and running in less than 1 hour. These state-of-the-art services take all the fuss, hassle, and fumbling out of website creation and deliver professional-looking results in no time. Let's learn more about these tools in the following article!
Wix
Wix is a website builder for beginners. It starts with a conversation with Wix's AI bot. The AI bot will ask you what you want your website to be called, its niche, and some additional probing questions. You can then add some images and portfolio links – this only takes a few minutes. Finally, you are given multiple templates to choose from - personalized templates from previous chatbot conversations.
The AI function works quite perfectly. Chat personalizes the setup process perfectly so you don't have to waste time searching for templates.
The only things that had to change were the testimonials, as well as the images and links to my work. The author of the article set up a working website within 15 minutes.
You'll appreciate the many features available for free trial, from image libraries and in-app editing to SEO and analytics tools. Of course, you'll need to register to access these.
Wix arguably has the widest range of templates you can create a website with on this list. You can create a portfolio, online store or blog. There's also an extensive app store, so whatever your needs, you'll find an add-on to suit your needs. This makes Wix the best all-around option on this list.
Unfortunately, you'll start with a bad default URL when using the free plan. You'll want to purchase a custom URL or even look for another provider.
While Wix offers basic hosting for free, paid plans unlock additional features and remove Wix ads on your pages. Ad-free usage will cost you $8.50 a month on an annual plan, while analytics will bring it up to $12.50 a month.
Dorik
Dorik ditches AI chatbots for some rapid engineering – everyone becomes a rapid engineer by 2024.
Your reminders are lifelines to Dorik. It seems like you can create any type of website with the correct prompts – but after creating more than 5 pages, the templates start repeating.
However, the author can still create a blog, a jewelry store, and a newspaper portfolio with some subtly tweaked prompts without much effort.
However, it's worth noting that Dorik doesn't have many apps available for immediate use. For example, to sell products on your website, you'll need to use the custom code feature to implement a third-party e-commerce service – and this feature is only available with paid plans.
You are required to enter the site title and 'description' before the entire site – template and text – is generated. In some ways, getting a website up and running is faster than Wix.
Luckily, you can regenerate your website with just one click if something is incorrect. Dorik has an editor and image library, but it also allows you to create your own AI images. This feature can be extremely beneficial for those who don't have a lot of images to use on their website. However, again, you will need to have some level of technical proficiency to achieve good results here.
While this is great, you won't be allowed to choose a template, and it's not easy to find a way to change the template you receive – without writing a completely new prompt. This can speed up the process but will take away some autonomy when choosing how to present your website.
Bio Sites
If you're just looking for a simple site to list in your TikTok bio, then Bio Sites might be the right choice for you.
Created by the people behind Squarespace, Bio Sites are the kind of business cards created for your social media profiles. They act less as an online storefront, but more often as a home page that links to other websites. Think of it more as a stylish Linktr.ee alternative than a WordPress alternative!
Setup is quick, editing the layout is simple, and the URL is beautiful (you can choose bio.site/yourchoice for free). Bio Sites even lets you put your content behind a paid request and see your analytics for free.
The main downside to this tool is that it doesn't have an image gallery or photo editor, and the templates are explicitly built for mobile viewing. But if you have your own images and love the special design language of the templates provided, this is a great choice.
Carrd
Carrd is an interesting option because you can try out the tool's templates without having to register first. If you are satisfied with the product, you can enter the details to publish your website!
Similar to Bio Sites, Carrd works best as a type of online business card. You wouldn't want to use this option to build an ecommerce site or to start a blog. Instead, this is a great tool for linking to other places. However, this time Carrd is more suitable for the desktop than the mobile-focused Bio Site.
There are so many templates to choose from that it's almost overwhelming. The templates are not personalized or even categorized effectively, so this is the hardest part for some users!
Once you've chosen your template, the website editor is intuitive and easy to use. Unfortunately, however, there is no image gallery available, so make sure you have your own images to upload.
