TikTok will start labeling AI-generated content
The world's largest online video sharing social networking platform TikTok has just announced that it is starting to automatically label AI-generated content (AiGC) coming from third-party platforms/tools. The company has partnered with Adobe's Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and Microsoft's Coalition for Content Prevenance and Authenticity (C2PA) to deploy this extremely important feature.
In fact, the ByteDance-owned company has labeled AI-generated content on its platform, such as content created using TikTok's AI effects. The new policy requires creators to attach an AIGC label to videos with AI intervention, and to date, more than 37 million creators have used this tool to support their work.
Sharing about the purpose of implementing the AI content labeling feature, TikTok said in a blog post:
While most people want to enjoy AI-generated content responsibly, there will be bad actors who use AIGC for bad purposes such as spreading fake news, defaming organizations and individuals, or scamming people. island…
TikTok will identify AI-generated content with the help of Content Credentials - a technology developed by C2PA that makes AIGC detection easier by adding necessary metadata to digital content. Content authentication has been implemented in other tools and services such as Firefly, Adobe's Photoshop, and images generated by Azure OpenAI DALL-E models.
TikTok has now begun rolling out the ability to read Content Credentials on images and videos, but audio-only content will be supported later. TikTok is the first video sharing platform to deploy this technology, and in the coming months, the platform will begin attaching content authentication information to every video users post. This authentication information will be respected even when the content is downloaded.
TikTok will be able to label more AI content as other platforms adopt similar technology. 'This means that in the initial stages, the increase in automatically labeled AIGC on TikTok may be gradual as Content Credentials metadata is needed to identify and label each specific video.
Anyone can use C2PA's verification tool to detect "AIGC created on TikTok and even find out when, where and how the content was created or edited."
