What is TikTok Music?
You're browsing TikTok and you come across a sound you like. So you decide to explore until you find the song's name and artist. Once you get the details, you switch to Spotify, Apple Music, etc. and add it to your library.
Tiktok is looking to expand its service, aiming to take advantage of the period when you discover music you like and upload it on Tiktok's own platform, TikTok Music, instead of the others mentioned.
What is TikTok Music?
At the time of writing, TikTok Music is only available in Indonesia and Brazil, but will expand its reach in the future. Details are limited, but here's what you can expect from this music service.
TikTok Music is a separate app from TikTok, created as a music streaming app to compete with Spotify and Apple Music. It's a music subscription service, not an app store one-time purchase option.
Using this app you can buy, play, share and download music. And speaking of music, this platform is licensed by 3 major record companies, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music. So it covers all of these labels' categories, meaning you'll have plenty of options when it comes to finding your next song.
Where is TikTok Music available and how much does it cost?
As stated, at the time of writing, TikTok Music is only available in Indonesia and Brazil. There, you can subscribe to the app service for about $3.25/month and $3.49/month, respectively. Of course, that doesn't mean the app will cost the same when it comes to other places, so we'll have to wait and see.
What does TikTok Music offer?
Since TikTok Music hasn't reached other markets yet, we don't know everything it will have to offer, but the app has teased a few features, which are quite understandable.
With Lyrics Search, you can search the platform by lyrics. Song Catch acts as a music recognition application; you can find a song by its tune, like how Shazam works. There is also a Real-Time Lyrics feature that you can enjoy while singing karaoke style.
One of the coolest features to explore is the TikTok-specific feature that lets you stream full versions of viral TikTok songs on the app. After TikTok Music reaches other markets, let's wait and see everything else it has to offer.
Will TikTok Music succeed?
At the time of writing, TikTok Music is still a mystery as it is not yet available to all users. But surely people seem to be excited about it. Given how viral TikTok is, it's not hard to see why.
Of course, TikTok has a history of offering services to compete with existing names, and that hasn't always worked out well. So, let's wait and see how TikTok Music goes up against Spotify.
