Note : If you cannot create a password reset disk and forget the password for all user accounts, you will not be able to log on to the current Windows for security reasons. This information applies to booting into Windows XP from Safe mode and Recovery Console. In this case, you must perform the "delete" installation of Windows XP, recreate the entire user account and then reinstall the necessary programs.

To log in to Windows XP, use one of the following ways:

Method 1: Use the password reset disk

If you have created a password recovery disk for Windows XP, reset the password using that disk.

Method 2 : Log in with administrator rights (Administrator) to reset the password

If you cannot log on to Windows by using a specific user account (including Administrator and Computer Administrator accounts), it is still possible to log in with another account that can also be managed by Follow these steps:

Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional

1. Log in to Windows by using an administrator account, which you must remember the password for

Note : You cannot log on as often as using an Administrator or Computer Administrator account with a Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professinal-based computer in a workgroup. To log in as Administrator or Computer Administrator, you must start Windows XP in Safe mode.

a. Restart the computer

b. Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE twice and then enter the name of the administrator account (usually an administrator)

c. In the Password box, enter the administrator's password and then click OK

Note : If the administrator account password is blank, do not type anything before clicking OK

2. Click Start , select Run .

3. In the Open section, enter the following command and click OK :

4. Click the user account that you forgot your password, and then click Reset Password .

5. Type the new password in New password and Confirm new password , then click OK .

Warning : If you reset the password for the user account in Windows XP Professional, the following information for the user no longer exists:

  1. Email is encrypted.
  2. The password is saved on the internet or remembered in the computer
  3. All files are encrypted by the user

Now you can log in to Windows with a new user account and password. The following sections provide a step-by-step guide to recreating a password for a typical account in Safe Mode using Administrator (or Computer Administrator).

Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional in the workgroup

Log in as Administrator and reset the password, perform the following steps:

1. Restart the computer, then Power On Self Test (POST), press the F8 key.

2. On the Windows Advancek Options menu, use the arrow keys to select Safe mode , and then press enter .

3. When prompted to select the operating system to boot, select Microsoft Windows XP edition ( edition is the version of Windows XP installed), and then press the Enter key.

4. On the To begin screen , click your user name , click Administrator .

5. Type in the administrator password, then press enter.

Note that in some cases, the Administrator password can set a blank password. In this case, there is no need to type the password before pressing the Enter key.

6. Click Yes to agree that Windows runs in safe mode.

7. Click Start , select Control Panel (or go to Settings , then click Control Panel ).

8. Click on User accounts .

9. Click on the user account whose password you want to change

10. Click Change the password if you want to keep the password, or select Remove password if you do not want to use the password. If you remove the password, skip step 11.

11. Type the new password for the user, and select Change Password .

12. Close the User Accounts tool, then restart the computer

Windows XP Professional in an area

Log in as Administrator to reset your password, follow these steps:

1. In the Welcome to Windows dialog box, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete .

2. Type the login information for the Administrator account, including the password, and then click OK .

Note the Administrator password can set a blank password. In this case, do not type the password before selecting OK .

3. Click Start , select Run , type compmgmt.msc , and then click OK .

4. In the Computer Management (Local) dialog box, expand Local Users and Groups .

5. Click on the Users folder

6. In the right part of the Computer Management window, right-click the user account of the password you want to reset, then select Set Password .

7. Click Proceed .

8. In the New password box, type a new password for the user account.

9. Type the password in the Confirm password dialog box, and select OK

10. Click OK to set the new password.

11. Exit Comuter Management, then restart the computer.
