How to Fix the “Different Version” Error in PUBG Mobile

Fix PUBG Mobile version mismatch errors by updating every player’s game, completing resource downloads, using the repair tool, and avoiding risky data deletion.

The “different version” message appears when people in the same party are running incompatible PUBG Mobile builds or editions. Usually, one player has not received the latest store update, has not finished downloading in-game resources, or installed the game from a different regional release. Update every device first; do not delete game folders or account data as an initial fix.

PUBG Mobile different version error message

1. Confirm that everyone uses the same PUBG Mobile edition

Compare the game name, publisher, download source, and region on each device. The Global, Vietnam, Korea/Japan, BGMI, and other regional editions do not always use the same servers or update schedule. Installing the newest release of one edition will not necessarily make it compatible with another.

If you normally play together, each person should install the same official edition from the appropriate app store. Avoid unofficial APK or update packages: they can be outdated, modified, or incompatible even when their displayed version number looks correct.

2. Update the game from the official store

  1. Close PUBG Mobile completely on every device.
  2. Open Google Play or the App Store, search for PUBG Mobile, and tap Update if it is available.
  3. If the store still shows Open, refresh its updates page, restart the device, and check again.
  4. Launch the game after updating and remain on the start or lobby screen until any additional files finish downloading.

Major updates may reach stores over a rollout window rather than at the same moment. If one teammate has a newer build but another player’s official store does not yet offer it, the safest option is to wait and check again later. The official PUBG Mobile website can help confirm whether an update is being distributed.

3. Restart the game and use its repair option

After all downloads finish, close and reopen the game on every device. If the mismatch remains, return to the login screen and look for the built-in Repair option. Run a routine or standard repair first, then let the client verify and download missing files before signing in again. Menu names can vary between releases.

Make sure the device has enough free storage and a stable connection while files are checked. An interrupted resource download can leave the app installed but not ready to join a party.

4. Clear only the cache before considering a reinstall

On Android, open Settings > Apps > PUBG Mobile > Storage & cache and choose Clear cache. The exact path depends on the phone. Do not select Clear storage or Clear data unless the account is linked and you are prepared to download all game files again.

iOS does not provide a separate cache-clearing button for each app. Restart the game and device first. Offloading or reinstalling should be a last resort, after confirming that the PUBG Mobile account is linked to a supported sign-in method rather than used only as a guest.

5. Reinstall safely only as a last resort

Before reinstalling, record the Player ID and confirm that you can sign back in. Remove the app through the operating system, restart the device, and download the same regional edition from its official store. Open it, complete all updates and resource downloads, and only then try the invitation again.

Do not manually delete the Tencent folder or other game directories. That can remove downloaded resources, settings, or locally stored files without correcting a store-version mismatch.

If the error still appears

  • Compare the version information shown on the login screen or in Settings on every device.
  • Check whether one person is using an emulator or a different regional client.
  • Ask the affected player to leave the party, restart the client, and accept a new invitation.
  • Use the in-game customer service channel and include the exact message, Player IDs, device platforms, and installed versions.

Once the party is on the same compatible release, you can return to normal play. TipsMake also has practical guides to essential PUBG Mobile habits, common enemy hiding places, and rifles suited to Miramar.
