Apex Legends is free to download on PC through the EA app, Steam or the Epic Games Store. The old Origin installation shown in earlier versions of this guide is no longer the current Windows workflow. Choose one supported launcher, use the official store listing and leave enough storage for both the initial download and later updates.
If the game installs but does not launch, use the Apex Legends troubleshooting guide. After the first successful launch, adjust performance with the Apex Legends FPS settings guide.
Before downloading Apex Legends
- Use 64-bit Windows and install current system updates.
- Check the official Apex Legends PC requirements against the CPU, GPU and memory in the computer.
- Keep at least the amount of free space listed by EA, plus extra room for temporary update files.
- Update the graphics driver from the GPU manufacturer.
- Create or confirm access to the EA Account that will hold the game's progress and entitlements.
EA currently lists 64-bit Windows 10 and at least 75 GB of free storage among the minimum requirements. Recheck the official page before downloading because requirements can change as the game is updated.
Option 1: Install through the EA app
- Open the official EA Apex Legends download guide and install the EA app for Windows.
- Launch the EA app and sign in to the correct EA Account.
- Search for Apex Legends or open its Store page.
- Select Download, choose the installation folder and review the required disk space.
- Wait for the download and verification stages to finish.
- Open the Library and choose Play.
If the game does not appear after it is added, refresh the Library and confirm that the app is online and signed into the same account used to claim it.
Option 2: Install through Steam
- Install and open the Steam client from Steam's official site.
- Sign in, search the Store for Apex Legends and open the official listing.
- Select Play Game or the available add-to-library option.
- Choose the library folder, confirm the storage requirement and start the download.
- Launch the game from the Steam Library when installation completes.
- Follow the first-launch prompts to sign in to or link the required EA Account.
Link the intended EA Account carefully. Do not create a second account during the prompt if you already have progress associated with another one.
Option 3: Install through Epic Games Store
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and sign in.
- Search for the official Apex Legends product page.
- Add the free base game to the Library.
- Choose Install, select a folder and complete the download.
- Launch the game and complete any EA Account connection requested by the supported sign-in flow.
Which launcher should you choose?
| Launcher | Useful when | Account note |
|---|---|---|
| EA app | You already manage EA games directly | Uses the EA Account in the app |
| Steam | Your PC game library and friends are mainly on Steam | May require linking the correct EA Account |
| Epic Games Store | You prefer the Epic library | May require the supported EA Account connection |
The game content is not improved by choosing one launcher over another. Use the launcher you can keep updated and whose account connection you understand.
If the download is slow or stuck
- Check the launcher's service status and pause other large downloads.
- Restart the launcher rather than repeatedly canceling and recreating the installation.
- Confirm that the library folder is writable and the drive has enough free space.
- Clear the launcher's download cache using its own settings if the queue remains stuck.
- Avoid third-party “download accelerators” or unofficial installers.
If Apex Legends will not start
- Restart Windows and open the launcher again.
- Use the launcher's verify or repair feature for the installed files.
- Install pending graphics-driver and Windows updates.
- Repair Easy Anti-Cheat from the game folder if the error specifically names it.
- Close conflicting overlays or monitoring tools for one test.
Record the exact error message before making larger changes. A server timeout, missing runtime and graphics crash require different fixes, and reinstalling the entire game is rarely the best first step.
