Viber, a rapidly growing communication application with more than 400 million users worldwide, has released an update for iOS and Android with additional video call features.
Viber 5.0 update allows iOS and Android users to set up free video calls with other Viber users anywhere in the world. The features work multi-platform, so users on iOS can communicate with people on Android and vice versa. Both versions, users can also send video information to applications for computers.
Viber is a fierce competitor with Skype, the application-software that provides users with the ability to communicate via voice, text and video.
In February, Rakuten, a Japanese e-commerce company, announced they had bought Viber with $ 900 million. At that time, Viber said they had 300 million users; in which they have added 100 million new users within the past seven months.
In addition to adding video calls, Viber now includes QR code scanning to quickly add contacts. On the iOS side, Viber also includes improvements to forwarding picture messages. And on Android, Viber has a new interface design.
