Microsoft: Edge 91 will be the best browser on Windows 10
Build 2021, one of Microsoft's most important annual events of the year, is about to take place, followed by a series of outstanding announcements and updates for developers and corporate customers.
However, there will also be a lot of interesting information for individual users, especially for the Edge browser. With version 91 expected to be released later this week, Microsoft has confidently announced that after updating to this latest version, Edge will be the most efficient browser on Windows 10. Improvements are made in two important features: Startup boost and Sleeping tab.
First of all, let's talk, Startup boost. This feature is expected to further optimize Edge's startup and response times on Windows 10, by running some of the browser's core processes in the background. Microsoft says this doesn't consume extra system resources when an Edge window is open, thanks to a low-priority policy in the background. However, to keep background processes running smoothly, some resources must be used before the browser is opened.
In other words, the focus will be on optimizing the time it takes to launch a set of Edge processes in the background as soon as the user turns on their computer, thereby reducing the startup and response times of the browser. Browser. That is the core idea behind this Startup boost feature.
As for the Sleeping tab, this feature was actually introduced in Edge 88, but will receive a big improvement on version 91. Sleeping Tabs is essentially a feature developed by Microsoft inspired by convenience the famous extension Great Suspender. It is created for the purpose of suspending or closing the tabs that the user has opened in the browser after a certain period of inactivity, thereby contributing to reducing the consumption of system resources (RAM, CPU) and Battery life for laptops.
Microsoft says that on Edge 91, Sleeping tabs can help save up to 82% of the memory used by the browser by putting inactive tabs to sleep. When a tab is put to sleep, Edge can do things like pause ads instantly, saving system resources instantly.
In addition, you can also customize tabs so that they go to sleep after a specific amount of time, as well as prevent some websites from going to sleep if there is a risk of losing important content.
Edge 91 is currently available in the Beta channel, but more specific information about the changes will be presented in more detail by Microsoft on the Build 2021 stage, stay tuned!
