ILL - the most brutal FPS horror game since the legendary FEAR

Having created a storm with its first trailer in 2021, ILL – a horror FPS developed by Team Clout – is gradually revealing true details about its gameplay, story, and brutal style. After 4 years of 'hiding', ILL officially entered the serious development phase with the support of Powerhouse , the publishing branch of Mundfish studio – the 'father' of Atomic Heart .

Plot: Horror in the Isolated Fortress

ILL was originally set in a small town in America, but the latest version takes place around a mysterious fortress in Eastern Europe , where players must survive among a series of terrifying mutant creatures, failed experiments and haunting environments.
Developer Max Verehin said they wanted to recreate the feeling of 'a living but isolated world', where you never know what's waiting behind the next door.

Gameplay: When physics and horror come together

ILL - the most brutal FPS horror game since the legendary FEAR Picture 1

ILL is more than just a shooter – it's a symphony of realistic physics and survival horror.

  1. Each bullet creates its own physical impact, causing enemies to fall, collide, and even change the surrounding environment.
  2. The gore (body disintegration) mechanic is developed in great detail – when a body part is shot off, the enemy not only loses balance but can also spawn a new creature from that part.
  3. The game takes inspiration from FEAR, Half-Life 2, and Soldier of Fortune, combining a slow pace, tense pacing, and signature survival elements: ammunition is scarce, and it's impossible to kill all enemies.

Sound and graphics

  1. ILL focuses on both sound and environment – every gunshot in a narrow hallway will echo, heavy, creating a feeling of 'real pain'.
  2. Gore effects and flesh sounds, moans and collisions are all finely tuned to enhance the sense of realistic horror.
  3. Graphics using Unreal Engine 5, with gloomy lighting, vivid body details, and realistic physics effects – making it impossible for players to take their eyes off for even a second.

Level structure

According to the game director, ILL does not have a completely open map but is divided into many large areas interspersed with dark, stuffy corridors.

Players can explore, find items, open new paths, or take shortcuts – but every path is designed to instill a sense of confusion and dread.

Enemies: Mutant, sick and unpredictable

Instead of supernatural ghosts or demons, ILL focuses on mutant 'infectious' creatures – half human, half slimy lumps of flesh.
They exhibit vicious behavior, react flexibly when injured, and even transform in battle , creating unpredictable moments.
