When connected to a Skype call, you turn on your microphone and camera and start chatting. The setup works well for the most part and allows you to organize a live chat.

But what if you want to use multiple cameras at the same time? Can you use multiple cameras with Skype in the same conversation?

Thankfully, there are 3 apps you can use to stream multiple cameras with Skype. Here is how you do it!

3 webcam applications for multiple Skype camera inputs

Get started using the webcam application to create additional webcam inputs for Skype.

1. ManyCam

The free ManyCam version allows you to create a virtual camera in your own camera. That means nesting one webcam stream in another, allowing you to play from two webcams simultaneously. The free limited-edition ManyCam version adds only one webcam input, but you can use the full version to create additional camera inputs, backdrops, 3D masks and other visual effects, etc.

The free version allows you to select two webcam inputs and arrange them in a few different ways. You can add several media layers to the screen, resizing each input to your desired size. In this case, you can have 4 webcams, split the screen into equal parts or as you see fit. Moreover, you can also add media streams to the screen from other inputs, such as web browser or pre-recorded video.

After installation, open SplitCam. Click the New Screen button to add a new scene, then select from Media Layers . Go to Media Layers> Webcam , then select your webcam when the option appears. You can choose the resolution for your webcam at this time, but you can change this option later.

Select the other webcams you want to use, then arrange the cameras as you like using the list of media inputs. Choose a webcam. You can then resize and position the input in the viewer.

Once you have configured both webcams, go to Skype. Go to Settings> Audio & Video . Now, use the drop-down box below Camera settings to select SplitCam Video Driver .

Use multiple devices to create multiple Skype webcams

If you are unable to understand multiple camera webcam applications or want to configure your webcam view with a very specific configuration, you might consider creating a Skype account to use with different hardware.

For example, if you have a laptop, smartphone, and tablet, you can create a Skype account for each device, then connect to Skype calls on each of them.

If you choose this method, there are a few things to consider.

  1. First, it's your time. Setting up and connecting a Skype call with multiple devices is a bit time consuming. However, once you have set up each Skype account, using Skype on multiple devices will be a lot easier next time, because you're ready to connect.
  2. Second is the Internet connection speed. HD video calls on Skype use about 1.2 to 1.5 Mbps for live chat. When you start adding additional video streams from the home network, you will need more network capacity.

Sometimes, Skype does not work exactly as you want. When that happens, there are a number of key settings you can check to make sure everything is working correctly.
