YouTube sets a new record for viewership

YouTube 'took over' television, becoming the first streaming platform to surpass 10% of total TV viewership.

According to the latest report from Nielsen, in July 2024, YouTube accounted for 10.4% of total online video viewing. This is a historic mark, a huge improvement compared to the previous month's 9.9%, the first time an online platform achieved this important milestone. This also helps YouTube show its strong appeal in the digital era.

July also recorded impressive growth of many other platforms. Peacock, thanks to its coverage of the Olympics and the show Love Island USA, saw a 33% increase in growth. Amazon Prime Video and Roku Channel also saw growth of 3.4% and 1.6% in TV viewership, respectively.

Although online platforms are increasingly dominant, cable TV is still the top choice for many users for updating news. According to Nielsen, thanks to important political events, cable news had strong growth in July.

With the convenience and diverse content of online platforms, users tend to shift from traditional cable TV to video-on-demand services.

With convenience and diverse content, platforms like YouTube are gradually changing the way humanity accesses information and entertainment. In the future, users may have more attractive options due to increasingly fierce competition between platforms.
