A. Distance between lines

Line spacing is the distance between lines in a paragraph. Microsoft Word allows you to customize line spacing like single spaced , double spaced , or any distance you want. The default distance in Word 2013 is 1.08 lines, slightly larger than the single line spacing.

I. Format of line spacing:

1. Select the text you want to format.

2. On the Home tab, click the Line and Paragraph Spacing command. A drop down menu will appear.

3. Move the mouse over the different options. A preview of the line spacing will appear in the document text. Select the line spacing you want to use.

4. The line spacing in the text will change.

II. Customize line spacing

You can adjust unlimited line spacing in the Line and Paragraph Spacing menu. To correct the distance, select Line Spacing Options on the toolbar, the Paragraph box will appear with additional options.

  1. Exactly : When selecting this option, the line spacing is measured with the unit of point ( pt ), just like the font size. In general, the line spacing is slightly larger than the font size. For example, if you are using a font size of 12pt, you can use line relaxation of 15pt.
  2. At least : Like the Exaclty custom, this option allows you to choose arbitrary pt sizes. However, if the size of the letters on the same line is different, this distance will be extended to larger letters.
  3. Multiple : In this custom, you will enter the desired line stretch. For example, selecting Muptiple and correcting the extension is 1.2; The text will be a bit more stretched than the text to a single distance. If you want the lines to shrink, choose a lower value like 0.9.

B. paragraph spacing

By default, when you press the Enter key, Word 2013 moves the insertion point farther than one line on the page. This automatically creates spaces between the paragraphs. Just as you can format the spacing between lines in the document text, you can adjust the distance before and after the paragraphs together. This is useful for segmenting, titles and subheadings.

Format paragraph distance:

For example, in this section, we will increase the distance before each paragraph to separate them and create a good look.

1. Select one or more paragraphs that you want to format.

2. On the Home tab, select the Line and Paragraph Spacing command. Next, click Add Space Before Paragraph or Remove Space After Paragraph from the drop-down menu. A preview of the paragraph distance will appear in the document text.

3. Select the spacing between the segments at will. But in this example, we will choose Add Space Before Paragraph .

4. The distance of the paragraph will change.

  1. From the drop-down menu, you can also select Line Spacing Options to open the Paragraph dialog box. From here, you can control the line spacing before and after the paragraph.
