In the process of using the computer, there are times when your computer encounters errors that slow down your computer , or operate unstable. These errors may be due to viruses, but also because of your misconfiguration settings, the installation of corrupted software, etc. If that is the case, before deciding to have to reinstall your entire computer, please use Use the Refresh and Reset feature in Windows 8 to reset the computer to the best state. Refresh - Refresh your computer
After a while your computer becomes sluggish , and you want to reinstall Windows. However, reinstalling from the beginning will be extremely time consuming, install Win, driver, download and install a bunch of software, .
That's when you need to refresh your computer . When you do a refresh this is what happens:
- Your personal settings and all of your files will not be removed or changed.
- Your computer settings will be restored to their default values

Refresh your computer can be done either through the new Metro style control panel or through the classic dashboard.
We will do it from the Metro style control panel, since that is a fairly quick way. To get started, start the Control Panel application .
After the panel has opened scroll the list on the left hand side , until you can select ' General '. Next you will see the control panel settings, 'General' on the right hand side.
Find the bottom of the settings on the right. You will see a section like the image below. . Click the Get started button to start Refresh.
Once you press the 'Srart' button, a banner will notify you of what will be changed.
After clicking the 'Next' button, you will be notified that Windows will restart your system.
When you are ready, you can click on the ' Refresh ' button then reboot your computer.
When your computer restarts, it will start refreshing your system.
Reset - Resets your computer to factory defaults
When you use the Reset function , you will restore the computer to the state in which you received your computer while you purchased it from the store.
Here is what happens with your current data and configuration:
- Personal files will be deleted
- All configuration changes will be reset to default
Resetting your computer can be done either through the new Metro style control panel or via the classic control panel. We will do it from the Metro style dashboard. To get started, open the Control Panel application. Same as for computer refresh.

From here we can reset the computer, find the Reset option as shown below. Then click the Start button - Get started to start Reset.
Once you have clicked the Start button a banner will be displayed on the screen, explaining what will happen to your data and applications. This part is similar to the Computer Refresh section above.
If you have more than one drive, you will be asked the drive you want to delete the files from. You can select all drives, or just Windows drives.
You will be prompted to confirm that you want to reset your computer. Click the Reset button to get started.
Your computer will then reboot.
Once it starts up again Windows will start the Reset process.
Once it has finished, your computer will reboot again, this time once it restarts it will appear as you boot the computer for the first time, it will load the driver and appear. to be in general state where you have to create your user account, etc.
