Recently, a security expert and a journalist conducted a test to prove to the user the immeasurable consequences of accessing the wrong fake wifi network. They went to the Grand Fiesta Americana hotel in Cancun, Mexico and set up a fake wifi account with a similar name to the hotel. Many visitors connect to this fake account because they mistakenly thought it was a hotel account. As a result, all user actions are tracked, from banking transactions to shopping, to the user's email password and bank account.
This test is just one of many cases of bad guys tricking users into accessing fake wifi networks. To avoid theft of information when accessing wifi, experts recommend that users should pay attention to the following points:
- Before accessing the wifi network where you come from, be careful to ask the staff about wifi information and password before logging in.
- Turn off the wifi network and use 3G or 4G when shopping online or making electronic banking transactions.
