New feature allows editing videos directly on Google Drive right in the browser

Google has just introduced an extremely useful feature to help edit videos saved in Drive. It is through Google Vids – the AI ​​video creation platform launched last year. With this new update, when you preview a video in Drive, you will see an 'Open' button in the upper right corner. Just click on it, the video will open directly in Vids.

 

The app will automatically import the file, allowing you to perform familiar editing operations such as cutting and splicing clips, adding music, or inserting text into the video. However, opening the video this way will create a new Vids project, so after editing, you will need to export it to an uneditable file, such as MP4.

Currently, the feature only supports MP4, QuickTime, OGG, and WebM formats. Each clip is also limited to 35 minutes or 4GB in size. Additionally, Vids must be enabled by the organization's administrator (it is enabled by default). It's worth noting that if Google Docs is disabled in your domain, Vids will also not work.

 

Google says the feature works well on newer versions of Chrome and Firefox. If you're using Edge, it's only available for Windows users (Mac and Linux are currently excluded). Other browsers can still try it, but it's not guaranteed to work properly.

The rollout began yesterday and will be rolled out gradually over the next 15 days. It will be available to users on most Google Workspace plans, including Business Starter, Standard, Plus, and Enterprise editions, as well as customers with the Gemini Education, AI Pro, or Ultra add-ons.

In parallel, Google has also added two photo editing features with Gemini for Slides and Vids. One is to completely replace the photo background by entering descriptive text, the other is to scale the photo background to match the new aspect ratio.
