Cyanide or Cyanide is a chemical compound containing the cyano group (C≡N). This chemical is fast acting, potentially lethal in various forms of compound in a short time.
Just 50mg - 200mg of cyanide or inhale 0.2% of cyanide gas, can kill an adult.
Cyanide can exist in many forms: solid (such as sodium cyanide (NaCN) or potassium cyanide (KCN)), liquid, or gas (such as hydrogen cyanide (HCN) or cyanide chloride (CNCl)).
It is found everywhere from natural substances in some foods and plants to the seeds of common fruits, such as apricots, apples and peaches. Also, cyanide appears in cigarette smoke.
How poisonous cyanide?
When cyanide enters a person's body, it will render the body's cells unable to use oxygen and die. Because the heart and brain use a lot of oxygen, these two parts are most affected when cyanide is poisoned.
The degree of cyanide poisoning depends on the amount a person is exposed, the route of exposure and the length of exposure.
Signs and symptoms of cyanide poisoning
The symptoms of cyanide poisoning are similar to those of other normal illnesses, so they are difficult to detect.
Cyanide poisoning when exposed to a small amount of cyanide, the victim will have some or all of the following signs and symptoms in minutes: dizziness, headache, rapid breathing, fast heartbeat, restlessness, nausea and vomiting.
If the victim is exposed to large amounts of cyanide in any way, convulsions, loss of consciousness, lung injury, bradycardia, respiratory failure can lead to death.
If fortunate to survive severe cyanide poisoning, victims may still suffer heart, brain and nerve damage.
