Fill and Stroke in Adobe Illustrator
To get started with colors in Adobe Illustrator, you first need to learn about Fill and Stroke . Open the exercise in Adobe Illustrator and choose the Selection Tool in the toolbar.
Next, click on the left picture.
Looking to the Appearance window , you will see there are 2 color boxes: Fill and Stroke , in which:
- The green part of the object is Fill - the main color of the object.
- The red part is the Stroke - the border color of the object.
To change the main color, click and Fill , you will see a palette appear available colors called Swatches .
You can select the colors provided here to change the color of the object.
The second panel is called Color Mixer , you adjust the CMYK color indexes to choose the most suitable color.
For Stroke you also choose the color according to the same operation.
You can adjust the thickness of the border by changing its pt measurement, the smaller the bezel, the thinner and vice versa.
Color Picker
Thus, manipulating and changing object colors only include 2 steps:
- Select the object with the Selection Tool .
- Change the Fill and Stroke colors as you like.
Try changing colors with other objects, using Color Picker :
Select the object with the Selection Tool .
Select Color Picker on the toolbar.
First drag to select the color in the Color Spectrum bar .
Then, choose the exact shade you want by dotting the left color area.
The new color you choose will appear here, below is the old color for you to compare. Once you've found the color you want, click OK to apply.
Copy colors in Adobe Illustrator
For quick color copying, use the Eyedropper Tool in the toolbar.
First, select the object you want to change color with the Selection Tool .
Then select the Eyedropper Tool .
Click on the color area you want to copy, and the object will be changed to the same color.
