Part 1: Display hidden files and folders on Windows 7/8/10
1. Windows 8 or Windows 10
Open up all the folder folders, in the View tab, select Hidden Items .
In the View tab on the Ribbon, click the Options option.
On the Folder Options dialog box that appears, click on the View tab and then select the option Show hidden files and folders .
If you want to show the folder on Windows, you can remove the check box in the Hide protected operating system files checkbox.
2. Windows 7 or Windows Vista
To hide files on Windows 7 or Vista, simply click Organize on any folder, then select Folder and Search Options.
Click on the View tab, then select Show hidden files and folders in the options list.
If you want to show the folder on Windows, you can uncheck the Hide protecte d operating system files checkbox.
Once done, click on OK to save the changes.
Part 2: Display file extensions and files on Windows 7/8/10
1. On Windows 10
To hide and show the file extension on Windows 10, follow the steps below:
Open File Explorer, then click the View tab on the Ribbon, select the File name extensions option.
Also, if you want to see hidden files and folders, check the box and select Hidden items.
- Different ways:
Open Control Panel by right-clicking on the Start button in the bottom left corner, selecting Control Panel.
On the Control Panel window, select Appearance and Personalization.
Next in the File Explorer Options section , click Show hidden files and folders.
In the File Explorer Options window, select Show hidden files, folders and drives and leave the Hide extensions option for known file types => Apply => OK .
Now you can view the file extension on your Windows 10 computer.
2. On Windows 7 and Windows Vista
1. Open Windows Explorer, then click Organize in the top left corner, select the Folder and Search option.
2. On the next window click on the View tab , then scroll down to find and uncheck the Hide file extensions option for known file types.
3. On Windows 8
Open File explorer, then click the View tab.
Next, select the File name extensions option to display the file extension or leave the option to hide the file extension.
