In February 2024, Google launched a simple web tool that allows you to create your own Android bot. This is not a "bot" in the AI ​​sense but a customized version of the mascot that has been synonymous with Google's mobile operating system since 2007.

Google launched this fun game at the same time as MWC 2024. But hopefully the option to create a custom version of the Android mascot will continue after the tech event is over. After all, it is one of the fun activities you can do on your Android phone.

For Google itself, it represents a small branding exercise. Everyone knows what Android is, but its mascot has been silently in the shadows for many years.

How to create your own custom Android mascot

To create your own Android mascot, visit the Create Your Own Android Bot page on Android.com.

On the right, you will see the stock version of the Android mascot, while on the left are different options you can choose from to customize your bot.

First, choose the material in which you want to create your Android bot. There are 25 options in total, ranging from plain colors to oddities like location-stamped brown suitcases, circuit boards, and transparent gumball machines.

Once you've decided on the material, choose some clothes for your bot. There are 20 costumes to choose from or you can choose to leave your mascot undressed. Kill Bill-style leather catsuits and astronaut costumes are popular options.

Next are accessories. There are 20 to choose from, including pirate eye patches, halos and wizard hats.

Last but not least are props. Again, there are 20 options and you can only choose one. So take the time to choose carefully between a guitar, an Xbox controller, a slice of pizza, etc.

There are thousands of different combinations, making it difficult to create an Android mascot that looks exactly like anyone you know - unless you both share a very specific design sensibility.

 

What can you do with your custom Android mascot?

Once you've created your own Android bot, you can download it for yourself as a PNG file or share the QR code for others to download. Unfortunately, your new Android mascot is just a static image that cannot be integrated into Android in any way - at least for now.

Mascot Android has been around since 2007. Although people initially called it "Bugdroid," Google now calls it simply "The Bot." Like Android, The Bot has undergone many changes, the most notable of which is the upgrade to 3D in 2023.
