If you are using Apple devices, you will probably hear DFU mode, short for Device Firmware Update. This is a special mode and necessary to be able to change the firmware, reset the device via iTunes on the computer when the device has a problem. For previous models, to bring iPhone to DFU mode, just press the power button and the Home button only. But what will the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus do when the hard Home button can't be pressed? In this article, we will guide you to put iPhone 7/7 Plus in DFU mode.
1. How to restart iPhone 7?
The power button on the iPhone 7 is no longer on the top of the device, but is moved to the right side of the device. Therefore, restarting the device will be different from the previous lines:
- First, hold down the power button on the right side of the device.
- Also press the volume down button on the left side of the iPhone.
- Hold both buttons when the screen is turned off and turned back on when an Apple logo appears.
2. Bring iPhone7 / 7Plus to DFU mode:
If your device has been jailbroken, crashes often occur, so DFU mode will remedy this situation when returning the device to its original mode, restoring with iTunes.

First you need to start the iTuens on your computer, turn off the iPhone and then connect the device to your computer with a cable.
- Press and hold the volume down and power buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds.
- Continue to hold the volume down button and release the power button when iTunes notifies that the iPhone is in recovery mode.
- Release the volume down button, when the device is in DFU mode with a black screen.
Users need to observe the messages on the screen during execution:
- When the Apple logo appears, it means that you have kept it for too long and have not succeeded. Do it again.
- When the screen appears the Plug into iTunes message , the execution process is not successful.
DFU mode is different from recovery. If in DFU mode, the screen will be dark as if it is turned off. In recovery, there will be iTunes logo on the screen. To exit DFU, hold down both power and volume down buttons for about 10 seconds to restart.
