Fun ideas & activities to get students excited about school

Building a friendly classroom community

The best way to engage your students is with vibrant classroom activities that build a friendly and positive classroom community.

Encourage your students to build relationships through collaborative activities, support their social-emotional learning, and set classroom expectations so everyone is on the same page.

Create excitement with charts

Who says graphs can't be fun? Probably your students, and more than once. Well, this assignment can change that. Using Canva's Graph Maker, creating graphs becomes fun and engaging.

Why not ask your students to chart how they spend their breaks? Or how many books they read and how many movies they watch? Maybe they could also list their favorite comics, songs, games, or TV shows, and bond over a shared interest. This activity takes advantage of the excitement of recess.

Infographics are a great communication tool with a wide range of uses. You'll see infographics used in media, marketing, reporting, and all over social media. They're a clever way to make statistics more engaging and easier to understand. That's why they're great for condensing complex ideas into an easy-to-understand explanation – and that sounds like a great challenge for your students.

Using Canva's infographic templates, your students can easily get started. Start by collecting some data about people's breaks. For example, what did people do during their breaks? How many people saw a movie? How many people celebrated birthdays?

Then, build your lesson around showing creative ways to present some of this data. You can help students get inspired by searching for 'Infographics' in Canva and they'll see thousands of templates to give them ideas and a starting point.

Custom certificates for any occasion

One of the best parts of a trip is getting a little memento of your time there. With Canva, you can create custom certificates to welcome your students back to school. You can create certificates or certificates for just about anything, and they're a great way to welcome your students back from vacation.

Or you could ask students what skills they want to develop this year and give them a list of ideas so they don't get 'stuck' on one part. Set goals together and give them future-oriented certificates, or just gather information about what's important so you can help students 'celebrate' together later.
