Change the following 7 iOS settings to better Safari security

If you prefer privacy, there are many browsers you can use to remain anonymous online. However, if you use the iPhone, you do not need to change the browser, Safari has settings that help you increase privacy.

1. Change search engine

You will not improve browser security if you use Google Search as a search engine. One thing you need to remember is that Apple has a good track record when it comes to privacy issues of users. Search engine providers are not entirely reliable. Google and Bing are well known for tracking users' search history.

Therefore, you should set up Safari's search engine into a privacy-protected search engine. There are a few search tools you can choose from but are well known and arguably the most private protection is DuckDuckGo. To change the search engine, go to Settings> Safari> Search Engine and select DuckDuckGo from the list.

2. Turn off the AutoFill feature

Autofill feature is a great idea. It can retrieve data from your contacts to automatically fill in the address, name and date of birth that you do not need to enter. It can remember usernames and passwords from web services. In addition, this feature can also automatically fill in your credit card information.

A clear benefit from the AutoFill feature is to help users save time. However, it brings high security risks. What happens if your iPhone falls into the hands of bad guys? Criminals can steal your money or even steal your identity to commit other offenses.

It is safer to turn off this feature and take the time to manually type other personal and sensitive information when necessary (for passwords you can use LastPass or some other password management application options ).

To turn off AutoFill, navigate to Settings> Safari> AutoFill . There are five on / off buttons you can adjust to your liking.

3. Disable Frequently Visited Sites List feature

This is a very cool feature because whenever you open a new tab on Safari, you will get a list of frequently visited websites. Like AutoFill, this feature helps users save time if you visit the news site every morning or log in to the same online portal several times a day.

However, from a private perspective, this feature is not great. Anyone who uses this browser on your device can know the site you use often and can access it. To disable the site list, go to Settings> Safari> General and turn off Frequently Visited Sites feature.

4. Enable Prevent Cross-Site Tracking feature (Prevent cross-web tracking)

Cookies are part of the web, they have some benefits, but cross-web tracking is scary. It means that the website will leave a cookie on your computer, allowing advertisers to track your activity on other websites. Over time, they can build a profile of your interests. That's how online advertisers offer services based on your activity.

To increase privacy, you can turn off cross-site tracking by going to Settings> Safari> Privacy and Security> Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.

5. Turn on the Fraudulent Website Warning feature

Most of the big websites you visit every day are safe. However, the Internet is full of dangerous websites, ready to try and try to infect malware with your device to steal information.

The Fraudulent feature of Safari's Warning Website will alert you every time you visit a website that is considered unsafe. It will retrieve data from Google Safe Browsing and Tencent Safe Browsing to offer its suggestions.

You need to enable this feature and there is no reason to turn it off. To ensure this feature is enabled on the device, go to Settings> Safari> Privacy and Security and turn on the Fraudulent Website Warning .

6. Prevent Apple Pay test sites

Apple Pay is one of the most widely used and secured mobile payment services you can find. If the Check for Apple Pay option is enabled, websites you visit via Safari will be able to check and use Apple Pay information to display additional payment options for existing users.

But when turning off this option does not prevent you from using Apple Pay, it simply prevents the websites you visit from checking its availability automatically. So to ensure privacy, you should disable this feature by visiting Settings> Safari> Privacy and Security> Check for Apple Pay .

7. Turn off the Siri and Search feature

Siri and Search features are integrated in Safari, allowing Siri to learn how you use the browser. Then this virtual assistant will use that information to make suggestions and suggestions when browsing the web. You can easily turn off this feature, just navigate to Settings> Safari> Siri & Search and turn off Search & Siri Suggestions .

If you still see Siri's suggestions while typing in Safari even if you have turned off this feature, then it may be due to Safari Suggestions . Siri will use data from iPhone activity and suggest sites based on your interests. You can prevent this by going to Settings> Safari> Search> Safari Suggestions .

Note : iPhone will continue to monitor your activity and you cannot turn it off. Disabling Safari Suggestions only prevents Safari from using that information to make suggestions.
