This is a major update of the Notepad application for Microsoft's version of Windows 10 Redstone 5, due out later this year. In addition to Notepad, other applications are also updated.

Finally Notepad was updated, fixing a silly error that has existed for more than 20 years

Recently, Microsoft has released an update to the legendary Notepad text editor with the ability to view and edit text files created by macOS and Linux.

Microsoft launched Notepad in 1985 with Windows 1.0, but over the past 20 years it still only supports Windows End of Line characters (EOL) including Carriage Return (CR - downstream) and Line Feed (LF - start a new line). This causes Notepad to display lines in a document created on a Unix system that sticks out to each other.

A .bashrc file is opened in Notepad.

And until now, this issue has been fixed in the new Microsoft update. On the Windows 10 Insider test version, although Windows EOL is still supported by default, Notepad was able to read, edit and print line end / downstream code and start new lines of Unix / Linux and Macintosh.

The above .bashrc file is displayed in the new Notepad.

This is a great update because Notepad is still frequently used for quick editing of code lines.
