If you want really quick access to open a frequently used application without placing additional icons on your desktop, you can add the application to the right-click menu on your Desktop. Here is how to do it.
This technique will work in Windows 7, 8, or Vista. We do not have an XP computer to test it, but we guess it does not work there.
Add applications to the Desktop Context Menu
For today's lesson we will show you how to add Notepad to the Right-click Menu, you can add any application you want to replace.
The first thing you'll want to do is open regedit.exe via the Windows shortcut (Flag key) + R. Or click the Start button and type in the run search box . After opening the RUN tool, type in regedit and click OK to open. Next you open in Regedit follow the link below: Similar to opening a folder only.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT> Directory> Background> shell

Next, you will need to create a new Key in the Shell folder with the name of the tool you want to add to display on the right-click menu on the Desktop of the computer. Right-click on ' shell folder ' => and then select New => Key from the menu.
Enter the new Key name that you want to display on the right-click menu on the Desktop of the computer. In this example, we will use Notepad .
Next, you will need to create a command entry to set the path to the application to launch. Right-click on the folder Key just created above, my will be Notepad , and then select New => Key from the menu. As shown below!
Name this folder ' command '.
To complete this step, you will need to enter the full path to the application you want to launch.
First press the Start button and type the name of the application => Next right click on select Properties => Select Next Open File Location.
You can use Shift + Right-Click and select Copy as path to get this copy more quickly.
Now click on 'newly created command folder' on the left side, and then double click (Default) on the right side to edit the string values.
Paste - Paste in the full path to the File to run the application you Copy in the previous step.

And right-click on the desktop Desktop screen you will see the application added as shown below, click on you will start Notepad.
You can add more applications to the right-click menu of the desktop if you want, just repeat the steps with a new menu item name.
