5 simple ways to reconnect USB without 'unplugging'

Removing multiple USB plugs may cause USB files to fail. Although Windows features "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" to push your USB drive out of the system safely and conveniently. However, there is no feature to reconnect the USB immediately after the USB is ejected. If you used to follow the method of removing the USB and plugging it back in, your method seems to be costly and inconvenient.Instead of having to take steps to do so, you can use one of the options below to avoid doing those steps.Safe and time-consuming.

1. DevEject

DevEject is a simple software configured to replace "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" in Windows. DevEject has the ability to eject, unplug, detect files to use to prevent devices from being ejected, and support Hotkey (hot key).

Just select the device from the Dev Eject and click the Replug button as shown above. Replug function works stably when tested in Windows XP and Windows 7 but the operation is not stable in Windows 8.1 .

Although the Dev Eject usually has to be installed and set up, you can still copy the program folders to another computer and use it without reinstalling.

2. USB Safely Remove

USB Safely Remove is an extended USB device management program. It can completely replace "Safely Remove Hardware Icon" in Windows and provide more functions like Renaming / Stopping / Hiding , auto-connect / disconnect programs, command lines and support. keyboard shortcuts, detecting the cause of a non- Stop / Eject device , and most importantly, being able to reconnect a device instantly without having to "unplug it" as often as you normally would use.

3. Zentimo

Zentimo is the successor of USB Safely Remove . Zentimo is created by developers for the purpose of managing external storage devices. It has all the same features as USB Safely Remove and a quick and easy mobile application launcher, checking the speed of the drive, disabling Autorun functionality in Windows.

To reconnect a disconnected device, simply click on devices marked 'Ready for safe removal' or right-click and select 'Return device back!'.

 

In recent times, the development of USB Safely Remove and Zentimo is quite slow and there are almost no new updates, but the old version can support Windows 8.1

Zentimo is also a shareware and the trial limit is the same as USB Safely Remove, but you can still use it even after it expires.

4. Disable and re-enable USB Mass Storage Devide

This method of reinstalling the USB has been ejected without installing any third-party software. When you eject a device connected via USB, the device icon will be displayed with a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager with the message 'Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for safe removal but nó không được gỡ bỏ từ máy tính (Code 47) ' (Windows cannot use this hardware device because it was prepared to remove safely but it was not removed from the computer (Code No. 47 ).

Tip : To access Device Manager , press WIN + Pause / Break key, click Device Manager in the left pane.

For Windows XP , just right-click on the device, select Disable and press Yes to confirm. Right-click the device again, select Enable , Windows will start rediscovering and reconnecting the USB.

For Windows 8.1 , do the same as the steps above. Note that you select No when prompted to restart the computer after selecting Enable. Repeat the steps to disable and activate the device again and remember to select No when asked to restart. Windows 8.1 will reconnect the device that has been ejected after disabling and activating twice. However, this method does not apply to Windows 7.

Alternatively, you can automatically perform the above steps by using the Batch file on Devcon.exe .

DevCon is a command line utility that can enable and disable a device in Device Manager .

First, you need to find the Hardware ID of the USB device from Device Manager . Double-click the USB storage device, in Details , in Property , select Hardware ID . Record the Hardware ID of your USB device.

Cop the following 4 lines and paste into Notepad . Replace the values ​​of * Your_PARTIAL_HW_ID * with Hardware ID of your USB device.

devcon disable * YOUR_PARTIAL_HW_ID *

devcon enable * YOUR_PARTIAL_HW_ID *

devcon disable * YOUR_PARTIAL_HW_ID *

devcon enable * YOUR_PARTIAL_HW_ID *

You can enter a full or partial Hardware ID if you have another device with the same Vendor ID . You can refer to the screen shot below, the wildcard used is VID_13FE because there is no other device than Hardware ID VID_13FE in the USB drive used.

Leave the Patch file with the file containing the devcon.exe file. Whenever you run patch files , it automatically activates and disables USB devices so that Windows 8.1 reconnects your USB device.

5. Uninstall USB Root Hub

Removing Roo USB Hub and then reinstalling can also enable Windows USB reconnect that has been ejected. The steps are also quite similar to the Disable and re-enable USB Mass Storage Devide method , though However, this method can be applied on Windows 7 .

First, you need to Eject USB, then go to Device Manager by pressing WIN + Pause / Break key and select Device Manager in the left pane. Click View on the menu bar and select Devices by connection .

Determine the USB Mass Storage Device with a yellow exclamation mark, right-click on "USB Root Hub" and select Uninstall .

If you use Windows 7 , just click on Action on the Menu bar and select "Scan for hardware changes" so that Windows registers and reinstalls any USB devices as USB Root Hub that you have previously removed.

If you use Windows 8.1 , Microsoft will do a lot easier because Windows will immediately reconnect your USB device after uninstalling Hub USB Root.

Unlike how to disable and re-enable a USB Mass Storage device , you will not be asked to restart the computer, but if you have another device such as an ADSL modem connected to the USB port, then This connector may be interrupted when you uninstall the Root USB Hub .

The devcon command is also much simpler because you do not need to specify Hardware ID that you want to uninstall. Use the command below:

devcon remove * root_hub20 *

For Windows 7, you will need to add a devcon rescan command line to scan the hardware changes again.
