If you know for sure that there are not any tasks that are interacting with the USB memory stick, you can remove it immediately from the USB port of the computer, this can be detected via an LED (if any) at on the USB memory stick, if the LED is blinking then it is possible that the data on the card is being accessed. But not always USB memory stick also integrated LED.
In principle, you should not remove the USB memory stick from the computer while it is in the process of recording data from the computer to the card. Therefore, the 'Eject' option simply ensures that you do not lose any data and the processes for interacting with the tag are closed before removing it from the machine.
