Instructions for changing Dropbox password

In the 2012 attack, hackers gathered information of 68 million accounts of the Dropbox online cloud storage platform. Dropbox confirmed this attack and forced customers to change their password.

1. Change Dropbox password

To change your Dropbox password, follow the steps below:

  1. First login your account at Dropbox.
  1. Next click on your name link in the top right corner, select Settings .
  1. On the Settings window, click the Security tab .
  1. Next in the Security section, click the Change password link .
  1. In the Change Password window, enter your old password and then enter the new password. Click the Change password button . At this time the screen will appear that the password has changed successfully: "Password changed successfully".

2. What to do if you forget your password?

If you forget your password, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the link Forgot password.
  1. On the Reset window of your Dropbox password, confirm your email address and click the Submit button. Dropbox will send a password reset link to your email. Your task is to click on that link.
  1. Now the screen will display the Forgot your password page. Your task is to enter the new password in the first frame and re-enter the new password in the second frame to confirm the password.
  1. Click the Submit button. Dropbox will notify you that your new password has been saved.

3. Activate 2-step verification

If you want to protect your Dropbox account more securely, you can enable 2-step verification. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. First open the Dropbox Settings page (as described above), then click the Security tab. Under Two-step verification , click Enable.
  1. On the Enable two-step verification window, click the Get Started button . Enter your password and click Next.
  1. On the next window, Dropbox will give you options such as using a text message or security code to enable 2-step verification. Select the text message option and click Next.
  1. Enter your phone number then click Next.
  1. Dropbox will send a security code to your phone number. Check your phone and enter the code you received in the appropriate box on the Dropbox page window and then click Next.
  1. On the next window you can enter the backup phone number if you want and then click Next.
  1. Dropbox will display the backup code in an emergency and you should note this code in case if you want to disable 2-step verification on your account. Click on the button to activate 2-step verification.
