How to Uninstall Software on Ubuntu

Uninstall programs with Terminal

Open Terminal. You will see the Terminal program icon on the left side of the screen, click on the Ubuntu icon on the top left of the screen, type terminalin the search bar and click Terminal when it appears.

Open the list of currently installed programs. Type dpkg --listinto Terminal, then press the key ↵ Enter.

Find the program you want to uninstall. You need to remember the official name of the program file instead of the program name (e.g. remember "avg.exe" instead of AVG Antivirus).

Enter the command "apt-get". Type sudo apt-get --purge remove programinto Terminal—remember to use the exact name of the program instead of "program"—and press ↵ Enter.

Enter the root password. Enter the administrator password then press ↵ Enter.

Confirm deletion. Type yand press ↵ Enter. The device will proceed to uninstall the program. Once done, you can close Terminal.

The time it takes to complete the process depends on the size of the program.

If the program is not removed properly with the command apt-get, you can use sudo aptitude remove program.

Uninstall programs with Ubuntu software

Open Ubuntu software. The software has an orange suitcase icon with a white "A" on it. Ubuntu Linux comes with this built-in management software that allows you to remove programs with just a few clicks.

If you can't find the Ubuntu software, click on the Ubuntu icon in the upper left corner of the screen, type ubuntu softwarein the search bar and click on the Ubuntu software icon.

Click the Installed tab . The tab with the computer icon is at the top of the Ubuntu software window.

Find the program you want to uninstall. Scroll down to view the list of installed programs until you see the program you want to uninstall, or enter the program name in the search bar in the top right corner of the window.

Click Remove . This button is to the right of the program you want to uninstall. It

Confirm the decision when asked. If asked, click Remove again, or select OK .

The requirements you receive on each version of Ubuntu will be slightly different.

Turn off Ubuntu software. Currently, the program has been removed from the computer.

Uninstall Ubuntu Linux

Make sure you have a Windows CD or USB. On a computer running only the Linux operating system, the simplest way to uninstall Ubuntu is to reformat the computer using the installation disc.

Ubuntu is not typically installed as the sole operating system on Macs.

To create a Windows CD on Ubuntu: insert the CD into your computer's drive, download the ISO from the Windows download page, right-click on the ISO file, select Write to Disc . , select the disc and select Create Image .

Insert the CD into the computer. Remember to keep the disc side with the logo facing up.

Skip this step if you just created a Windows CD in the previous step.

Restart the computer. Click the Settings wheel in the top right corner of the screen, click Shut Down. at the bottom of the menu, select the Restart icon from the pop menu -up.

Reboot from CD. For most computers, you can press any key on the keyboard to do this.

If the computer is not set to boot from the drive, you must press the "Boot Options" key during the reboot process, or select Windows DVD as the boot option in the GRUB menu.

Select time and language, then click Next . You'll use the drop-down menu in the center of the Windows Setup window to choose your language and time zone.

Click Install now . This option is in the middle of the window.

Enter the Windows 10 product key, then select Next . Enter the product code in the corresponding field near the bottom of the window.

You can click I don't have a product key if you want to enter the code later. If so, you need to select your Windows version before proceeding.

Check the "I accept" box, then click Next . This is to accept Microsoft's terms of use and move to the next page.

Click Custom . Options are in the middle of the page.

Select the Ubuntu drive. Click on the Ubuntu Linux installation hard drive.

Erase the Ubuntu drive. Click Delete , then select OK when prompted. This is the operation of removing Ubuntu from the drive and reformatting the drive to NTFS, which is the file system used on Windows.

First, you must click on Drive options below the drive window.

Click Next . This will notify you that you want to install Windows on the selected drive.

Follow the instructions on the screen. After completing the Windows installation, you are asked to set some options (e.g. language, date, time, access rights, etc.). Currently, Ubuntu has been removed from the computer.
