When you find this article, you're probably wondering why there is a program called mDNSResponder.exe running in Task Manager, you don't remember when it was installed, why it appears in the Add / Remove section. Programs in Control Panel. So in a nutshell, what is this and how to uninstall this program?
What is mDNSResponder.exe or Bonjour?
The mDNSResponder.exe program is in Bonjour of Window Services, just like Apple's 'Zero Configuration Networking' application, which is automatically installed by iTunes. If you wonder why iTunes can work with other software on the same local area network, Bonjour is the boss behind.
So can not use iTunes anymore? Not every one of you thinks this way, but it's not the only way Bonjour gets into your device. There are tons of different applications like Pidgin, Skype, and Safari used to connect to the same system. It works like a Window Service, visible if you navigate to the list of services (or just type services.msc into the search box). This way you can stop the software at any time.
The main problem we face is that it usually doesn't appear in Add / Remove Programs, so you can't uninstall it normally. Fortunately, you can still remove mDNSResponder.exe if you want, only it will limit some of the functionality of the included applications.
Important: Do not remove Bonjour if you will use iTunes to share your music library or any of its related features.
How to remove?
First, Bonjour can be turned off without removing - go to Services, double-click on the software and switch Startup status to Disabled.
This is the best way if you don't really want to upset anything, the program will always be able to play again.
Okay, so how to really get rid of them?
If so sure, there is a very simple way. Open the Command Prompt in admin mode (right-click and select Run as Administrator), then change the settings directly, usually like this:
Program FilesBonjour
If you use Vista or Windows 7 with x64 version, you will have to go to Program Files (x86) folder. There, type the following command:
mDNSResponder.exe /?
Now we know what to do to remove the program. Simply type the following:
mDNSResponder.exe –remove
You will receive a notification that the service has been removed (Again, you need to open Command Prompt in Administrator mode).
You can also delete all DLL data in the directory by directly renaming as follows:
ren mdnsNSP.dll mdnsNSP.blah
You should delete the entire directory if possible.
How to reinstall mDNSResponder.exe
So your favorite application has been affected. No problem, you can easily reinstall Bonjour using the following commands:
mDNSResponder.exe -install
But I erased it already!
See it! You should not delete anything unless you don't really need it anymore. That is why renaming files is an effective method. Now go to the Apple site and install Bonjour again.
