What is Google Store? Knowledge you should know about the Google Store app store

If you are interested in Google products, you know that the company has a store called 'Google Store'. This is where Google sells their own products, but that is not always the case.

In this article, we'll take a look at the interesting history of the Google Store as well as what you can buy here.

1. The Google Store starts from an app store

Google's first 'store' is the Android market . It only exists on Android devices and provides Android apps and games.

Google has slowly added different types of content to the Android Market, which requires them to rebrand to 'Google Play'.

The Google Play Store is home to a wide variety of digital goods, but it's also where Google sells Nexus phones and tablets, Chromecast, and Chromebooks. All this is located under the tab "Equipment" ( Devices ) on the Play store.

Ultimately Google was more interested in producing their own hardware, leading to the creation of the Google Store .

2. Products 'Made by Google'

The first hardware device developed by Google was the Nexus Q in 2012, it was also the only hardware sold on the Play store at the time.

However, the Nexus Q eventually failed, leading to the launch of the Chromecast in 2013, and Google had great success with the device.

All that was just the beginning of Google developing its own products and acquiring hardware companies.

Google Store officially launched in March 2015. Up to this point, Google has only developed hardware devices. However, they are about to make a big push into many different areas, making the release of the Google Store a major step forward.

The following year, Google introduced the first Pixel phone and the Google Home smart speaker . This kicked off the 'Made by Google' initiative. Since then, dozens of products have been rolled out in the Google Store including Pixel phones , Nest smart devices , Chromecast, Chromebooks, and more.

3. What can you buy in Google Store?

Google distributes digital goods, ie they sell software through the Play store, but as I mentioned, they also sell hardware in it.

The Google Store currently sells most of the stable Google products including Pixel phones, Chromebooks, Chromecast, Nest devices, and some products from Google partners.

The Google Store is not the only place where you can buy Google hardware. Many of their products can be purchased at retail stores, including Best Buy and Amazon . However, if you buy a Google product from Google itself, you'll usually get better warranty and customer support.

The equivalent of the Google Store would be the Apple Store . It's an Apple-owned store that makes and sells products on it. Also in some cities of major countries, Apple Store headquarters show and sell their products there.

Unlike the Apple Store, the Google Store is just an online store. There is no "traditional" Google Store in the real world. You can find Google or 'pop-up shops' in stores like Best Buy, but that's all about Google stores.

One exception to the "real products" rule in the Google Store is subscriptions. You can purchase services like Google One, Stadia Pro, and YouTube Premium. These are the registrations that are usually associated with the actual product.

To summarize: Google Store is an online store that sells devices & accessories made by Google.
