MDaemon Email Server is a core component of the mail system and MDaemon Suite has several add-ons that support this mail system. Mdaemon users can use ComAgent to perform Address List synchronization between Outlook / Express and MDaemon server. By default, a workstation can connect using POP3 / IMAP4 or WebClient (Webmail Client Interface).
ComAgent also has an Instant Messaging client that allows end users to create a familiar list where they often send and receive mail with an Instant Messaging interface. Microsoft has a tool called OCS that includes Instant Messaging. Some key features of MS tools are: Telephony Integration, meeting images and audio, Application Sharing (application sharing), Live Meeting (online meeting), connecting to external workstations and public networks like MSN, AOL and Yahoo.
We will now return to the main content of this section, which is to implement Address List synchronization between the MDaemon server and the Exchange server. We will perform a number of manual steps to keep the two folders always assimilated during the combined use phase. You can always create scripts to automate this process and not have to perform manual operations to keep the two systems in sync.
In fact, we will move the converted and unused users into the same Global Address List in the two systems.
Global Address List configuration on MDaemon server
MDaemon users who are using the WorldClient webmail client can search for this Address List and use Auto-Complete while sending mail in the To / Cc field (Figure 1) or if they click the Address List Lookup icon then select the organization -name / Contacts (Figure 2).

Figure 2: Search for an address in Address List.
For each new mailbox created on MDaemon Console, an entry for each new mailbox will also be created in the Contacts folder in MDaemon Public.
There are many different methods that can be used to create an Address List index in an MDaemon server, and we will use two simple methods to create an index in Address List. The first way is only applicable to newly created accounts in Exchange Server 2007, and the second is applied to accounts that have been moved between the two systems. You can use either of these methods or choose a method to use.
Note: Before creating an index you need to create a mailbox on Exchange Server 2007.
Method 1: Create an address in MDaemon's Address List
You must first configure a user who can change the Public Address Book (can create new users or use the server administrator account). Then open the MDaemon Console , click on the Accounts menu and select Account Manager . Next, double-click the previously selected user and select the Options tab. Select the option Account can modify the public Address Book and click OK (Figure 3).
Figure 3: Configure the account can change Address Book public.
Now we can log in to WorldClient using the account you just configured. Expand Public Folders , expand your-organization-name entry, select Contacts and click the New button. Enter the required information including the email address (Figure 4).

Method 2: Change the current mailbox properties to forward mail
Assuming there is a user and this user will be migrated to the Exchange Server 2007 system, we can follow the above method, then delete the mailbox and create a new address. However, we may want to keep the contents of the original mailbox on the Mdaemon server for a short time and ensure that the migrated user is satisfied with the full content in the new mailbox before Remove the original mailbox on MDaemon server.
Note: We are not interested in data conversion but only perform operations to help the two systems exist in parallel.
Open MDaemon Console , go to Accounts and Account Manager . then double-click on the user to move and uncheck the POP, IMAP and / or Outlook connector option to force this user to use the new system. Select the Forwarding tab and select the This account is currently forwarding mail option and then enter the destination user's email address, we will use a secondary SMTP address assigned to this user in the new system (@ apatricio.local ) as shown in Figure 5.
Note:
- You can configure the forwarding address and save a copy in the local MDaemon. Even if the user is not using MDaemon anymore, you can still copy the contents of the mailbox in the first move.
- If the Exchange server is receiving mail from the Internet, then the forwarding process will only be performed for mail sent from users who have not yet migrated, bending any mail sent from the Internet or another Exchange mailbox. This account cannot be accessed by MDaemon.
Figure 5: Enter the address on the new system for users who just moved.
Global Address List configuration on Exchange server
The next step is to ensure that the Exchange Server's Global Address List contains all existing MDaemon server mailboxes to perform this address list synchronization.
On the Exchange server we can create a Mail-Enabled Contact (the mail-enabled contact) or Mail-Enabled User (mail-enabled users). If you already have a list of users in Active Directory , it will be much easier to create Mail-Enabled User initialization because we only need to manipulate a single icon. Please do the following:
- Open the Exchange Management Console .
- Expand Recipient Configuration .
- Click New Mail User . in Toolbox Actions .
- On the introduction page, click on Existent User , select Browse and then select an existing user. Then click Next .
- On the Mail Settings page, click on Edit and enter the SMTP address using the same SMTP address that the MDaemon mailbox is using and click Next (Figure 6).
Figure 6: Enter the SMTP address.
- On the New Mail User page, click Next .
- Click Finish on the Completion page.
- Open the Exchange Management Console .
- Expand Recipient Configuration .
- Click New Mail Contact . in Toolbox Actions .
- On the introduction page, select the New Contact option and click Next .
- On the Contact Information page, enter the information from the mailbox in the Mdaemon server and enter the correct mailbox address on the Mdaemon server into the e xternal e-mail address field . Then click Next (Figure 7).

- On the New Mail Contact page click New .
- Finally click the Finish button on the Completion page.

In addition, we can use Exchange Management Console to create M ail-Enabled Contact or Mail-Enabled User .
Conclude
In this section, we have implemented the creation of a new index in two mail systems to maintain Address List as if we had not performed the conversion for users on both systems. This process can also be applied to other mail systems to provide Address List features for users who have and have not yet moved.
