Tips or troubleshooting connection problems on Outlook

Microsoft Outlook sometimes has problems such as not opening a link in Outlook or an error connecting to an Exchange server. Handling this problem sometimes uses a simple way such as closing Outlook and restarting. However, in some cases, it will be more difficult.

The tips presented below will help you troubleshoot connectivity problems on Outlook . These tips do not require deep intervention into the computer, so any user can apply.

Turn off Offline mode

Sometimes Outlook does not make a connection to the server to send and receive mail, and most users think it is due to a connection error of Outlook. However, it may be because Outlook is in Offline mode, so no connection is made to the server to send and receive mail. So, make Outlook return to Online mode. If you are using Outlook 2007 or earlier, go to the File menu . If there is a check mark next to Work Offline , uncheck it.

Fix data file:

Outlook uses two types of data files (.pst and .ost). And if these two files fail, it may cause connection problems. Here's how to handle:

1. Close Outlook.
2. Open Control Panel.
3. Find the Mail icon (depending on how Windows Explorer is set up, you can click the User section to find the Mail icon).
4. In the window that appears, click Data Files.
5. Select the data file from the list and click Open File Location.
6. Determine the file containing the data (usually it has the same name as the email address).
7. If the file has an extension of .ost, change its extension to .OLD . If the file has an extension of .pst, you do not need to do any additional editing.
8. Close the window and open Outlook.

Note: You need to turn on the display of the file extension to see if it is .ost or .pst. This can be done through settings in Windows Explorer.

If the data file is a .pst file, use the Scanpst utility to fix this file by following these steps: Search for the scanpst.exe file in Windows Explorer; After finding the file (for example, it is in C: Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice14), double click on it to run the program; A window will appear, click the Browse button ; Find your data file * .pst ; Click the Start button .

Scanpst will check the data file and may take a long time if your email data file is large. If Scanpst finds an error, it will prompt you to click the Repair button to fix it. You should also check the Make Backup Of Scanned File Before Repairing checkbox to restore the original data in case the repair fails.

After the repair is complete, close Scanpst and reopen Outlook. If Outlook still can't connect, go to the next tip.

Fix Office installation

You may have to repair the installation on Office, which will solve the problems that are not fixed by the usual ways.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Click Programs and Features.
3. Search for the Microsoft Office icon and select it.
4. Click Change.
5. Select Repair from the window that appears.
6. Click the Continue button and wait until the Office installation repair is complete, restart the computer.

After the computer has restarted, try reopening Outlook and checking whether it is connected to the server.

Recreate Profile

If all of the above fail, you may have to recreate the Outlook profile. Usually, create a new profile without deleting the old one. To recreate your profile, you need to know your account setup information, so email setup information is required before you start.

Here's how to create a new profile:

1. Open Control Panel, open Mail and click Show Profile.
2. Click Add and then name this new profile.
