Asustek Computer (Asus) predicts its super low-cost Eee PC sales with Windows XP Home operating system will outperform the Linux operating system version of 6: 4 this year. The price of the version running Windows is only slightly higher than the Linux version.
The company estimates that more than 5 million Eee PC computers will be available in 2008 with the above-mentioned ratios of 6 and 4, 3 million Eee PC Windows and 2 million Eee PC Linux.
' Most users expect your session to run Windows ', said Jonney Shih, president of Asus, in a conference in Taipei City (Taiwan) on Tuesday.
Currently Asus is selling Eee PC Windows version with two options. The cheapest option is Eee PC Surf XP with an estimated price of $ 408 with a 7-inch LCD screen, 4GB of NAND flash storage, 512MB of DDR2 memory (2nd generation dual-pulse dynamic memory).
The more advanced option is the Eee PC 4G XP for $ 473, which offers an SD memory card slot (supports up to 4GB) and better battery life of up to 3.5 hours compared to 2.8 hours of cheap options. In addition, the premium option is also equipped with a 3 megapixel webcam.
Both options run Pentium M processors with speeds corresponding to the choice of 650MHz and 900MHz. The weight of the Windows version is also about 1kg lighter.
The Linux operating system version (provided by Xandros) is sold with 2GB of NAND flash memory for $ 261.
Asus officially sold the Eee PC with Windows XP operating system earlier last month at the Cebit fair held in Germany. Jose Liao, head of Asus 'sales department in Taiwan, said:' Now you can buy it at online stores and shops in many different countries, but prices can vary slightly based on the way and tax of each country '.
