While other online storage services currently only offer '10 GB' of standard capacity, China's Tencent in 2014 will provide 10 TB for free to users around the globe.
Tencent vice president Peter Zheng recently announced it will introduce its cloud storage service in overseas Chinese markets in early 2014, but he did not give a specific launch date.
Tencent will provide 10 TB of "free" storage capacity
The race to provide free storage by online service providers in China began when Baidu and Qihoo 360 gave their domestic users 1 TB of storage in August 2013. Tencent then joined the race with storage capacity of up to 10 TB but initially only applied to users in China.
The move to provide free '10' of 10 TB for users across the globe shows that the Chinese service provider is tending to expand its operations into the world market. So far, this is the most attractive free storage capacity compared to other popular cloud services like Dropbox , Box or Google Drive and even more than the total capacity of these 3 services combined.
However, users will not be able to use all 10 TB immediately for storage. They can automatically " unlock " step by step to get more free space by uploading documents to Tencent. This " unlocking " process will not require any extra fees.
Zheng said that users' data from countries around the world will not be stored in servers located in China but will switch to servers in the US or Southeast Asia, similar to the case of WeChat's service. this country.
