If you often use Photoshop and Lightroom Classic, don't rush to upgrade to macOS Catalina

Adobe is recommending users of Photoshop and Lightroom Classic not to rush to this update.

Apple has just launched the official macOS Catalina version for Mac users from 2012 and older. However, Adobe is recommending that users of Photoshop and Lightroom Classic not rush to upgrade to this update because they "have compatibility issues" with the latest version of Apple's desktop operating system. Please wait until Adobe launches the next update after resolving the noted compatibility issues.

According to the support data posted by Adobe, because the new macOS no longer supports 32-bit applications, devices that are using older versions of Photoshop or Lightroom Classic contain components and installers. 32-bit platforms will not be able to update to new operating systems.

With Lightroom Classic, this application has 2 major problems with macOS Catalina:

  1. The tethering photography function cannot be detected and connected to Nikon cameras. Tethering is a tool that allows users to directly connect the camera to a computer, any photos taken will be immediately added to Lightroom's library.
  2. Lens Profile Creator function does not work.

When upgrading a Mac to macOS Catalina, the Photoshop software encountered some of the following errors:

  1. The file extension does not change when saving the file to the new format.
  2. The software does not display plug-ins downloaded from the network or is installed by drag-and-drop.
  3. Lens Profile Creator and ExtendScript Toolkit do not work.
  4. 32-bit drop-lets created on previous versions of Photoshop did not work.
