How to Install New Media Player in Windows 11

Microsoft started rolling out the new Media Player for Windows 11 last November, but it was limited to Insider program members and couldn't yet be installed to run on the stable channel.

However, if you want to try the app without joining the Insider program, you can install the new Media Player in the stable channel via a trick from Ghacks.

Note: The new Media Player replaces the Groove Music app, so if you're using that app, it won't be available after installing the new Media Player. You'll also need to be running the latest version of Windows 11, which is 21H2 Build 22000.376, for these steps to work.

How to Install New Media Player in Windows 11

1. Go to https://store.rg-adguard.net/ and paste the Microsoft Store listing address of the Groove Music app into the text box. The address is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/groove-music/9wzdncrfj3pt.

2. Click on the drop down menu on the right side that says RP and select the Fast channel.

3. Proceed by clicking on the check mark button next to it and a long list of links will appear. Find the file named Microsoft.ZuneMusic_11.2111.54.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.msixbundle which is around 35 MB in size to download.

Note: There is a similar file with number 54.70, which is about 92 MB. Do not download this version, as it cannot be used to update Media Player.

4. Run the downloaded file and the operating system will display a pop-up window asking if you want to update from Groove Music to Media Player. Click the update button to confirm the action and wait for it to finish the process.

The new Media Player is now ready to use, users may notice that the title of the program says Media Player Preview because it is still being tested. However, now that the application is working on the stable channel of Windows 11, it is only a matter of time before Microsoft makes the news official.
