Requires installation of Kali Linux
Installing Kali Linux on the computer is quite easy. First, you will need compatible computer hardware. The minimum hardware requirements are listed below, and of course better hardware will give better performance. The i386 Image has a default PAE kernel, so you can run them on systems with more than 4GB of RAM. Download Kali Linux and burn ISO to DVD or prepare a USB with Kali Linux Live as the installation medium.
Prerequisite installation conditions
- Minimum disk capacity of 20 GB for Kali Linux installation.
- RAM for i386 and amd64 structures, at least 1GB, but we recommend that you have 2GB or more.
- Support booting CD-DVD / USB
Prepare for installation
- Download Kali Linux.
- Burn ISO Kali ISO to DVD or Kali Linux Live Image to USB.
- Make sure your computer is installed to boot from the CD / USB in the BIOS.
Procedures for installing Kali Linux
1. To start the installation, start with the installation media you selected. You will be greeted with Kali Linux boot menu. Select Graphical-Mode or Text-Mode . In this example, we will choose a GUI installation.
2. Select your preferred language and then select your country location. You will also be prompted to configure your keyboard using the appropriate keyboard diagram.
3. The installer will copy the image to the hard drive, explore the network interface, and then prompt you to enter the server name for the system. In the example below, we will enter ' potassium ' as the server name.
4. Enter a strong password for the root account.
5. Next, set the time zone.
6. The installer will now probe the disk and give you four options. For encrypted LVM partition settings, select the ' Guided - use entire disk and set up LVM ' option as shown below.
7. Select the target drive to install Kali. In this case, we will select the destination as the USB drive. We will use this USB drive to launch an encrypted version of Kali.
8. Confirm the partition map and continue installation.
9. Next, you will be asked to enter the encryption password. You will need to remember this password and use it every time to start the encrypted version of Kali Linux.
10. Configure network mirrors. Potassium uses a central repository to distribute applications. You will need to enter any appropriate proxy information if needed.
NOTE: If you select ' NO ' in this screen, you will NOT be able to install packages from Potassium repositories.
11. Next, install GRUB .
12. Finally, click Continue to restart Kali installation. If you used a USB device as the destination drive, make sure you turn on the booting from the USB device in the BIOS. You will be asked to enter the encryption password you set earlier on each boot.
Now you have finished installing Kali Linux and it's time to customize the system to your liking. Good luck!
