Grow a Garden: A Beginner's Guide

Grow a Garden may at first glance seem like a simple Roblox game where you grow plants and sell them for big profits.

However, like other farming games, you will have a garden growing quickly in Grow a Garden thanks to some "shortcut" tips in the game. Different elements of the game, such as crop types, weather conditions, mutations, equipment usage, and many others, can completely change the game if you know a few effective tips. So, in this guide, TipsMake will discuss some essential tips and tricks for beginners in Grow a Garden.

0. Redeem Grow a Garden giftcode

This is a little help for players to start farming in the game more easily. Giftcode will give you reasonable seed packs, Sheckle or many other items for you to start with your garden. Check out the latest list of Grow a Garden codes to redeem codes for timely rewards.

1. Buy Carrots to Start

You will need to spend your first 20 Sheckles to purchase Carrots. A Carrot seed costs 10 Sheckles each, and is a one-time harvestable crop.

Start by purchasing 2 Carrot Seeds and planting them in your garden. They will be ready to harvest in seconds. Visit Steven at the Item Shop to price your crop.

If you are lucky, you may get mutant carrots, which will sell for a higher price. But usually you will only get regular sized carrots. However, a 0.34kg carrot can bring you 30 Sheckles, so keep growing Carrots to quickly accumulate money.

2. Switch to Multi-Harvest Seeds

Once you have a few hundred Sheckles, skip Carrots and move on to multi-harvest crops. For example, Strawberries are the next crop after Carrots, costing 50 Sheckles. Depending on how your first harvest goes, you may be able to afford the more expensive Blueberry Seeds, which cost 400 Sheckles, but I recommend starting with Strawberries.

You will need to wait about a minute for the strawberry bush to fully grow, but the multi-harvest plants will survive until you break them with a shovel, and they will continue to produce fruit.

If you're not sure which plants are multi-harvestable, check out our plant and seed guides here. We've also listed the price of each plant and its rarity, so you can save up and prepare when they come into stock.

3. Check the store every day

You can find the store icon on the left side of the screen. Click on it and you will see the Perpetual Packages tab.

The contents of this tab change daily, but you'll always get the first item for free each day. We've seen items change from Sheckles, to gear, to Seed Packs, so check as soon as you log in, who knows, maybe there's just the reward you're looking for?

4. Check daily tasks

Opposite the Seed Counter and the Item Counter, you will find the Egg Counter and the Equipment Shop. At the Equipment Shop (with the blue stripe), you can ask Eloise about Daily Quests.

There are 3 quests to complete each day, and if you complete them all, you will receive a Seed Packet. Some plants, like Pineapples, can only be obtained through this quest, so keep checking and try to complete them.

5. Buy a sprinkler as soon as possible

Equipment in Grow a Garden is quite expensive, and the lowest price is 25,000 Sheckles for a Basic Sprinkler. However, the Basic Sprinkler increases the growth rate and fruit size, allowing you to harvest bigger plants and earn more money.

Wait until you have a steady supply of crops and are regularly earning thousands of Sheckles from sales before purchasing a Sprinkler. Once you reach 25,000 Sheckles, purchase a basic Sprinkler when it becomes available and see how big your fruits get.

6. Owning a pet

What do Pets do in Grow a Garden? They provide passive abilities like digging seeds, Sheckle, equipping, mutating plants, and boosting plant growth. You start with the ability to hatch 3 Pet Eggs at once and have 3 Pets roaming around the garden.

The cheapest and most common egg in the Pet Egg Shop is the Regular Egg, which costs 50,000 Sheckles. With this, you have a 33.33% chance of getting either a Yellow Dog or a Regular Dog. Both will mine random seeds, including those you haven't purchased, which is great for beginners who want to have a variety of plants.

However, this does not apply to time-limited plants, so don't expect Dogs to dig up Candy Flowers.

7. Feed your pets

Each pet's abilities will improve as they grow, and they only grow by accumulating XP through being well fed. This includes when you are offline. So make sure to feed your pet and keep their hunger bar full before logging out, so they continue to grow. The next time you log in, their abilities will have improved.

8. Participate in in-game events

Grow a Garden is constantly updating with new content and hosting events. All events so far have had special rewards, which you can buy or earn through growing the right plants.

While events often require plants with Mutations, sometimes just patience is all it takes. The Moonlight event, for example, requires players to deliver the Moonlight Mutation to the Wise Old Owl. All you have to do is log in during Nightfall and hope for a mutation to occur.

This doesn't cost Sheckles, so even if you have little in-game money, just having some basic plants will get you into the event.

9. Mutations can be cumulative

If you have high value plants, it is better to let them sit for a while – especially if they are large, rainbow or gold. The reason is that you want the mutations to stack up for more profit.

Let's say you have Grape Seeds, and the vine has sold well, but a Frozen Grape would sell for more. Instead of harvesting right away, see how many mutations you can accumulate on a single vine.

Let your high-value plants go through as many weather events as possible, and you can get a Wet, Shocked, Frozen Grape that sells for 1.5 million Sheckles in one go.

10. Don't keep every plant you plant.

You have limited garden space, and the strawberry bushes you bought at first will no longer be suitable once you start having better and larger plants.

As you unlock rarer seeds and start growing plants like Mangoes, Coconuts, and Dragon Fruits, you'll need to start being selective about your space. There's no room for cheap one-time crops like Carrots unless they're needed for daily quests.

Start clearing your garden of Common, Uncommon, and even Rare plants that can be harvested multiple times as you get more Mythic Seeds. If you have a large Blueberry bush taking up space, get out your shovel and destroy it. You can always buy it back later if you need it for a quest.

11. Create a Multi-Level Garden

You planted a Coconut Seed and it's growing tall, but you can't reach the Coconuts? Create a tiered garden, which means using other plants to help you reach the tallest ones.

You can jump on plants, especially Apple, Peach, and Dragon Fruit. As they grow taller, you can use them to reach the highest points in your garden. Even plants like Bamboo can be climbed by walking straight at them. Consider the placement of your plants to make sure nothing is out of reach.

Like any other game, you need some tips when starting out, and hopefully some of the above tips will help you get a better start in Grow a Garden.
