Develop alcohol that does not create a feeling of intoxication
Scientists at GABA Lab, a London-based laboratory, are working on a synthetic alcohol that has the same effects as alcohol but without the feeling of intoxication.
Specifically, the new wine, called Alcarelle, has a relaxing effect similar to alcohol, but without causing hangovers, imbalance or any other negative side effects.
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) acts as a neurotransmitter that causes us to get drunk. It has the effect of making the drinker feel comfortable and relaxed, but it makes us hangover, headache, dizziness, difficulty in movement, problems with speech and thinking. because it has prevented some certain signals in the brain. This symptom is called hangover.
Synthetic alcohol Alcarelle is essentially an odorless, tasteless substance. Users can add Alcarelle to other beverages for the same effect as drinking without the negative side effects.
Scientists see Alcarelle as a breakthrough prospect, helping to prevent alcohol consumption from causing serious health problems.
Dr. David Nutt, project leader, said, Alcarelle will help people can drink alcohol without getting drunk, liver, heart, brain damage . and can save millions of lives.
Of course, Alcarelle is not a natural product like alcohol, so it will be difficult to produce and consume. Scientists hope that a non-drunk wine can be launched on the market by 2026.
