Basic carl bot setup

This guide will cover everything you need to do to get started with what the carl bot has to offer.

1. Set the prefix

Do you want the bot to respond when using prefixes? To do that, you can enter the ! Prefix set . Carl bot offers up to 15 prefixes at once, so you can also add a second prefix by typing:

!prefix add

2. Set up all the channels

! log channel <#channel> sets the channel where the carl bot will log things like deleting messages, changing names, updating role (roles). We'll talk more about that later.

! set welcome <#channel> decides where to send the join / leave / ban message (more details will be available later).

3. Set reaction role

Reactions roles work best on their own channels, so the carl bot gives the command to create a dedicated channel for the reaction role, with some permissions that most people will find useful. You can create this channel by entering:

!rr channel

You should use ! Rr make for this if you are new.

4. Set up the modlog

You will use ! Modlogs create to create a channel with the appropriate permissions. If you already had a channel for submitting moderation actions, you might have used:

!modlogs set <#channel>

5. Set up starboard

! starboard will create a starboard

! star limit will change the number of stars needed for the post to show up on the starboard.

6. Logging configuration

By default, the diary will record everything members do in each channel, which is not always what you want.

Assuming you are not interested in message edits, the way to prevent those edits from showing up in the log is by typing:

!log edit

The ! Log command takes an event as an argument and tries to figure out what you want to convert. Another thing you can do is ignore deleted messages in certain channels. Perhaps you are not interested in the deleted messages in mod channels. ! log ignore #illuminati is how you ignore events from the #illuminati channel . Read the full page for more information.

7. Set up a mute role

By entering ! Muterole create , you can create a role with "send message" permission denied in all channels. Please note that any channels created in the future will not be included by the bot. Users can now mute with the command:

!mute <@member> [time] [reason]

8. Add twitch streamer

There is no point in setting up a twitch channel if you don't have any streamers to watch. Let's say you enjoy watching b0aty. Let's add him by typing:

!twitch b0aty

Now anytime online b0aty, you will be notified.

9. Set up participation messages

First, you will set the message sent to the preset channel with:

!welcome Hello there {user}, glad to have you in the tutorial server

You can also set another message to send directly to the participant by entering:

!joindm Hello and welcome to the tutorial server, please read #rules and respect the other members

This is far from everything the carl bot has to offer, but at this point, you've set up as much as you can.
