Android Nearby Share App for Windows Officially Launched

File sharing or data sharing in general is one of the factors that greatly affects the user experience on operating system platforms, and Windows is no exception.

Google has officially announced the launch of Nearby Share for Windows, a new application that makes it easy for users to share files between Android and Windows devices. The app, which went into beta in March, is now available for all users to download from the Android website.

The way Nearby Share works is not complicated. This application will use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to create a peer-to-peer connection between devices so no network connection is required. To share files, users just need to open the Nearby Share app on their Android device, and select the file they want to share. The application will then automatically scan for nearby Windows PCs and display a list of compatible devices. At this point, users only need to select a target device in the list, and the file will be automatically moved to that PC.

Google is also working with a number of OEMs to pre-install Nearby Share on their Android devices right out of the box. HP Dragonfly Pro will be the first device to receive this support. This means that device users will be able to start using Nearby Share right away without having to download the app.

 

However, it's also important to note that Nearby Share requires a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or later and doesn't support ARM processors, at least for the time being.

The launch of Nearby Share for Windows is an important step forward in Google's efforts to make it easier for users to share files between their Android device and Windows PC. The application is easy to use and works quickly, making it convenient to share photos, videos, documents and other types of files.

In related news, Samsung has also updated its internal file-sharing app Quick Share for Windows to work with non-Samsung-branded laptops. This application has allowed Windows laptop users to easily transfer photos, videos and documents between their Galaxy smartphone, tablet and PC.
