Microsoft officially closed all retail stores in China
Microsoft has officially closed all retail stores in mainland China, and is moving some employees from China to other countries such as the US, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.
This decision by Microsoft marks a major change in the technology company's approach to the billion-people market.
The decision to close stores in China was made in the context that Microsoft is restructuring its business operations globally. The company will change its strategy in this market, promoting cooperation with third-party retailers and increasing its online presence, instead of focusing on direct retail.
In 2020, Microsoft closed most retail stores in the world, only retaining a few important locations such as New York (USA), London (UK), Sydney (Australia).
Although Microsoft Stores in China will no longer operate, consumers can still purchase Microsoft hardware products through Microsoft's online store and retail partners.
As recently revealed by Microsoft president Brad Smith, revenue from China accounts for only 1.5% of the company's total revenue.
Currently, Microsoft has not officially commented on this information.
