NotebookLM's latest feature allows creating videos from notes

AI is great at summarizing notes, and it could soon be a reality. Lots of apps use AI to generate note summaries, but this upcoming feature in Google 's NotebookLM could do a whole lot more.

NotebookLM will soon be able to convert notes into videos

TestingCatalog has spotted a new Video Overviews button in NotebookLM, Google's AI-powered note-taking tool. This suggests that users may soon be able to create video summaries of their notes. Since NotebookLM is developed by Google, these videos will likely be powered by the company's latest video generation model, Veo 2.

NotebookLM already has an Audio Overviews feature that lets you create podcasts from your notes. This feature is one of the reasons the tool got attention in the first place, and if Google can get the video creation feature working as expected, NotebookLM could become a must-have note-taking app.

We don't know what the end result will be at this point, but it won't be as simple as treating your notes as a prompt to create a video. Google claims the Veo 2 can create video clips "several minutes long" and has a better understanding of real-world physics as well as human movement and expression, so the results could be pretty good.

NotebookLM can sometimes create hour-long podcasts based on your material, so it doesn't seem like this new feature will replace it entirely. Instead, Google may be looking to enhance its AI-generated podcasts with a little visual metaphor or explanation to better visualize and explain more complex topics.

Audio Overviews typically consist of scripted conversations between two AI-generated hosts using fixed voices. Given the current limitations of the Veo 2, Google could deploy a similar template-based system here to get better results.

Video Overviews are just the beginning

Apparently, Video Overviews aren't all that's new to NotebookLM. TestingCatalog also spotted some UI changes that could help with better content discovery. There's a new section called Editor's Picks , which suggests you'll soon be able to browse public notebooks. Since this is a Google tool, there's also an element of personalization here, so this could provide you with some interesting reading.

These kinds of community-driven features could expand NotebookLM from a note-taking and research assistant into a full-fledged knowledge-sharing platform, similar to Perplexity's Discover section . Google appears to be pulling its entire AI ecosystem across multiple media — text, voice, and even video — into a single assistant-like tool that revolves around user-generated content, similar to apps like Notion .

The Video Overviews feature and UI changes are expected to arrive alongside the release of the NotebookLM mobile app for iOS and Android, slated for May 20. With Google I/O also scheduled to start on the same day, these new features will likely be prominent announcements.

NotebookLM is one of the best AI apps for studying or note taking ever. Many people are really excited to try it out, especially considering how well the Audio Overviews feature works.
