How to turn off news widget in Taskbar on Windows 10
On the latest beta of Windows 10, Microsoft has added a news widget to the Taskbar.
The purpose of this feature is to make users use Windows 10 computers for as long as possible instead of switching to reading news on mobile devices.
While this feature is quite useful, not everyone likes it or feels it is necessary for them. If you don't like this feature then please disable it using the methods below.
The simplest way to disable the news widget
To disable the news widget in Taskbar on Windows 10, follow these steps:
- Right click on the Taskbar
- Select the News and Interests menu and then select Hidden
- You can also choose Show icon only to still display news wigdet, but it will take up less space on the Taskbar.
After you have completed the above steps, the news widget will no longer appear in the Taskbar. To make it visible again, just repeat the operation, but choose Show icon and text (or Show icon only ) instead of Hidden .
How to disable the news widget using Registry
Since this method interferes with the Registry, make a backup of your system before doing it to ensure it's safe. Here's how to do it:
- Press Windows + R to open Run
- Type
regedit
in Run and press Enter - Find the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionFeeds
- Right-click the Feeds key , select New then choose DWORD (32-bit) Value
- Name the newly created key ShellFeedsTaskbarViewMode and press Enter
- Double click the newly created key and set it to 2 to turn off the news widget
- Click OK
- Reboot the machine
When the phone finishes booting up, the news widget will be hidden. If you want to enable the news widget by Registry then follow the steps above but change the value of the key from 2 to 0 .
Good luck.
