How to Play PSP Games on Android Using PPSSPP App
PPSSPP is one of the most versatile PSP emulators you can use on your Android device. Remember that to play the game at the right speed, you need to use a newer Android device. Devices that are too old and slow cannot play games. If you customize the firmware installed on your PSP, you can take the PSP disc and copy it to your Android device.
Install PPSSPP
Open Google Play Store. PPSSPP is a PSP emulator, you can download it for free from Google Play Store. You don't need any additional files or applications (unless the game requires it).
Search for "ppsspp" in Store. You will see a few options in the results list.
Select the "PPSSPP" option. You will see the "PPSSPP Gold" app has the same functionality as the standard app. First, download the free version to see if it's compatible with your device, then you can buy the Gold version if you want to support the developer.
Click "Install" to download and install the emulator. This is the only application you must install to play the game. You do not need to download the BIOS file like with other emulator software.
Download game files
Download ISO or CSO game files from online sources. If you don't want to dump the game, you have to customize the firmware on your PSP, you can download the ISO file from online torrent sites. Downloading games that do not belong to you is illegal, so you must accept all risks when downloading files. Just find the game on your favorite torrent site and download it. The game can be in CSO format, which is a compressed ISO file. Both CSO and ISO files work on PPSSPP.
It will be easier if you download the game file on your computer, then copy it to your Android device.
See the article How to Download Torrents for detailed instructions on how to download torrent files to your computer.
After downloading the game you want to play to PPSSPP, read the next step. If you want to dump the game legally, continue reading below.
Install custom firmware on PSP if you want to dump game files. Thus, you can create ISO files for any UMD or game you download yourself. However, this is a rather complicated process. We will briefly explain below, but you can refer to the articles on How to hack PlayStation Portable for more details.
Update to version 6.60 of PSP.
Download PRO-C Fix3 to your computer. This is a custom firmware installer for PSP.
Copy the download folder to the GAME folder on the PSP Memory Stick.
Run "Pro Update" in the PSP's Game menu to install custom firmware.
Run "CIPL_Flasher" to permanently default custom firmware. Thus, every time you restart your PSP, you do not need to redownload the firmware.
Set the UMD you want to dump onto your PSP. You can convert UMD disc to ISO file, then copy to Android device and play on PPSSPP.
Press the Select button on the main PSP menu. This opens the PRO VSH special custom firmware menu.
Select "USB DEVICE" and change to "UMD Disc." This is to make the disc appear on the computer instead of the Memory Stick when connecting the PSP to the computer.
Connect PSP to computer. Use the USB cable included with the device to connect.
Open the "Settings" menu on the PSP and select "Initialize USB Connection" . Normally, the correct folder will be opened automatically. If the folder doesn't appear, open Computer/This PC and select the drive that contains jumbled letters and numbers.
Click and drag the ISO file from PSP to computer. The file copying process may take several minutes. Now you have finished copying UMD on your computer to ISO file format.
Play games
Connect your Android device to your computer. You need to transfer the PSP ISO file to your Android device's memory to download it into PPSSPP software.
Open Android on the computer. You will see the device in the Computer/This PC window.
Create a folder named "PSP", then create a subfolder named "GAME" . This is how to mimic the PSP's folder structure.
Copy the ISO file to the GAME folder on Android. The copying process will take a while.
Disconnect Android from computer. After copying the ISO file to the PSP/GAME/ folder, you can disconnect your Android from the computer.
Start PPSSPP. You will see PPSSPP's main menu.
Click "PSP" > "GAME" to view the entire ISO file. All game files copied from your computer are listed in this section.
Click on the game to open. The software will download the game, if your device is configured strongly enough, the game will be started. You can play the game by pressing the keys on the screen.
If you cannot download the game, there are two possibilities: one is that PPSSPP does not support the game, two is that your Android device is not configured strong enough to play the game.
