Back Up, restore and move Firefox

Network Administration - With all settings and add-ins, Firefox is a great configuration browser. However, perhaps the problem that many users encounter is how to backup and " dump " the entire configuration to a new computer. This is also the content that we would like to introduce to you in this article.

Although there is no clear way to do it, in this article we will introduce you a fairly reasonable plan. Here you need to backup a folder. We do not specify the name of that directory because the name may differ from each other's computer name, but we can show you how to find it here:

First, close Firefox. Doing this process while the browser is running is not safe.

When Firefox is closed, select Start , then Run , type % appdata% (both% characters) and press ENTER. Navigate to the Windows Explorer window to MozillaFirefoxProfiles (in other words, open the Mozilla folder inside your current location, then the Firefox folder inside it, .)

Once inside the Profiles folder, you will see a folder different from the random name and the .default extension - like 4hw0enat.default . That's what you have to backup - that folder and all the files and folders inside it. Copy it to a safe location.

Here's how to restore it after you buy a new computer or reinstall Windows:

First, you must install Firefox, run and close Firefox on your new computer. Then use the instructions above to find the Profiles folder of the new Firefox installation. Copy the old .default folder from the old computer to this new Profiles folder.

You will now have two .default folders in Profiles. In which a folder is just copied, press F2 to change its name, CTRL-C to copy the name, then ESC .

Move in the directory tree to the containing folder, the folder named Firefox. Double-click the profiles.ini file (configuration settings) to open it in Notepad.

The last line of this file starts with Path = Profiles / . Select the rest of that line (the part to the right of the /), and press CTRL-v to insert the name of your restored folder. Save the file, then open Firefox, now everything will appear as you wish.
