Recently, Sony has officially released a latest PlayStation 4 update that allows PS4 owners to stream their games to iOS devices such as iPhones and iPads.

  1. Sony officially brought PS Vita to the past!

More specifically, the service is called "Remote Play", and has existed on the PlayStation 4 since its launch in 2013. Over the past few years, Sony has focused more on deploying Remote Play support for many. Different types of devices, including PlayStation Vita, Sony devices, PC windows, Mac, and now iOS.

Below is a picture describing how the Remote Play on iOS device looks - note that the PlayStation DualShock 4 inspired gamepad buttons:

However, Remote Play on iOS does not allow users to pair the PlayStation 4 gamepad with the smartphone or tablet they are playing, but instead, users must use virtual buttons.

Through iOS apps, PlayStation 4 Remote Play users will be given full access to not only games, but also their PlayStation 4 consoles. To use Remote Play via iOS device with PlayStation 4, you will need to do the following two things:

  1. Updating your PlayStation 4 to a 6.50 firmware version is now available for download.
  2. Download the appropriate iOS app, you can find it here.

After completing these two steps, turn on your PlayStation 4 and open the application, then follow the instructions from Sony.
