What is the maximum amount of RAM on your computer

See how much RAM your computer has

If you do not know, here is an easy way to know how much RAM your computer currently has. On the keyboard, press Windows key + Pause .

The System window will appear showing computer system information, including processor, RAM and operating system type (32bit or 64bit).

Then use Ctrl + Shift + ESC to open Task Manager. Go to Performance >> Memory .

Here, you can see what type of RAM (DDR3 or DDR4) you have and the number of slots in use.

Mac users can use 'About This Mac' from the Apple menu for chipset information and RAM value.

The maximum RAM your computer supports

Windows

Windows users can determine the maximum amount of RAM in the Command prompt.

First, find 'Command Prompt' in the search box and open it as administrator (Run as administrator) .

Enter the following line of code in the Command Prompt and Enter windows :

wmic memphysical get MaxCapacity, MemoryDevices

Here you will see the MaxCapacity result, the value is in kilobytes, convert to gigabyle by dividing this number by 1048576.

The example above shows my maximum RAM capacity is 32GB. If the motherboard has two RAM slots, that means the maximum amount of RAM per slot is 32/2 = 16 GB.

Mac

The easiest way to find out detailed information about your Mac's RAM is to go to 'About this Mac', which will show the memory type and speed, how many RAM slots on your Mac are, and what slots. Which is being used.

  1. Click the apple icon and open About this Mac
  2. Click on 'More Info .' button to display System Information.
  3. Under the 'Memory' tab, you'll find information about the RAM on your Mac, including maximum capacity, used slots, and type of RAM your Mac supports.

After knowing the maximum amount of RAM of your computer, if your system supports more memory than it currently has, you can upgrade the RAM to increase the performance of the computer.
